Looks like we finally get to see one of Olivia's, 'Peter,' dreams.

Looks like a great episode too.

trent said...

I think that's one of Peter's dreams, not Olivia's.

Anonymous said...

I hope it's not a dream

Hmm. Whoever's dream it is(and is it?) it's gonna be interesting.

Looks like an intense episode in more ways than one. Awesome seeing Peter back in the field doing what he does best.

Man . . . this is a great promo! I really like how they are presenting Peter. I didn't think Peter had such an impact on the show and the lives of these characters. I know Josh Jackson says that Olivia seems better off in the Peter-less world, at least in the beginning, but it's obvious that what she's missing is love in her life and Peter seems to be the best candidate.:-)

Is it a dream? I sure hope so because I don't want them to answer the 'does Peter and Olivia get back together' too soon. When you're talking epic love, it can't be too easy. However, I would crig if they created another love triangle w/ the Lincoln Lee thing . . . not just because I don't think Lincoln and Olivia have that energy. I don't want this to become the 'Olivia is only used as a love interest.' One of the best parts of her character is that she is strong and self-reliant (although this season so far, she's coming off as a bit soft and unsure of herself). Olivia is smart, Peter didn't impact her intellect, but she doesn't seem to be offering too much in the way of solving cases; Lincoln Lee seems to be the crime solver.

In any event, I'm excited for the new episode and the entire season. I know folks haven't been overly thrilled, but Fringe remains the best at created environments and relationships that both frustrate and keep you wanting more.

Friday can't come soon enough!

It is a dream. I think its Peter's coz you can see Pete wake up just after 'you're the problem'. It goes very fast, but its there. But who knows, it might turn out to be Olivia's, one of those she was having before Peter returned. "I've been seeing him in my dreams for the past three weeks" - Olivia from Alone In The World.

@Scully8 Yeah. Same here. No more triangles. And as far as Peter and Olivia are concerned, I wouldn't be surprised if they turn out to star-crossed. Bet that's what the producers are planning.

FringeFan said...

Sorry, correcting a mistake. You can see Peter wake up at 0:08 in the video, right after a shot of him & Liv. Not after " you're the problem".

It may very well be Peter's dream - as noted he loses consciousness at some point in the episode.

Either way, Olivia or Peter, it seems to be a dream because the level of intimacy is too high for where the characters are currently at emotionally.

The look of Olivia, says it all. The man of her dreams, there, next to her .. Is it really a great problem for her.

Nice ambivalence in that final close up shot between P & O, carried mostly by the look on her face. She seems to be saying that he, or his presence in this timeline, is causing problems with reality (see Old Darth's review of Novation).

But he is also causing problems with her personally as well. She probably feels the presence of the love he has for her as a result of his years of experience with her in the old timeline, but she has NEVER met this man at all. I have to keep remembering that the people in this timeline have knowledge and experiences different from those of the old timeline that we and Peter share, and that that is their point of view. Think how discordant it would be if a stranger suddenly showed up in your life, and you could FEEL that that person obviously knew and loved you, but you didn't know them at all, while at the same time being slapped in the face with the lack of love in your own life. A little similar to Becky Woomer in "6554kHz" who didn't remember her own child and husband, or even herself.

This stranger also has deep knowledge of top secret Fringe Division which gives him a legitimacy that she can't ignore as well.

I think Peter will be able to reach her. Although he doesn't know her "nurture" (the things that happened to her in this timeline that shaped her character), he knows her "nature" (the essence of who she is regardless of timeline or experiences), and that is where deep love operates. I think the same will hold true for Peter & Walter.

If Peter's presence in this timeline IS causing problems with reality, that will be a much tougher issue to address. How will he? There is one thing Peter can do that no one else can (besides charm his way out of a locked box), and that's operate the machine.

While everyone is awwing over PO, I am more concerned with why Peter is on the ground with his hands over his face, however, I hope Peter is the one dreaming, its time somebody else besides Olivia become active and do something.

@FringeFan, I sure hope not star-crossed of the negative kind; although, I don't know of too many that have ended happily. Hey,does Mulder and Scully count? :-)

As you can tell, I'm a die-hard shipper!

I dont think its a dream...the look on her face is pretty newlivia....she does NOT have an interest in him at the moment...she doesnt trust him and she (to me) has a thing for lincoln...which is the same in the other universe but reversed (alt-lincoln liking bolivia) but it seems pretty one sided...i think this sides lincoln is asexual...he just seems too awkward to be having a partner just yet hahaha

Anyone else notice the ring on Peter's right hand? (you can catch a glimpse in the screencap where they're laying down outside) thoughts?

Anonymous said...

Star,

You pointed out exactly what I was thinking. I noticed the picture that Peter is on top of Olivia because shes on the ground and if you look at his right hand he has a ring. Also they are both wearing different clothing in that picture when compared to the clothing that they are wearing on "the case". This leads me to believe that it is a dream of his, of his biggest fears that he will actually cause more harm to them than good.

I think one set is a dream and another set of pics is from them on the case

@scully8 Sorry to inform you, but star-crossed IS the negative kind. There are no happy endings for those. Am a shipper too, just not die-hard. Fingers crossed!! (do they do the same thing Over There? Or is it with toes?) :)

The squealing twelve year old girl inside me is hoping the scene was something significant that had happened in the now altered "future" from s3. The adult me knows it's probably just a dream... Sigh

I think that is really fascinating about Peter's character at the moment is that while he has always felt like a fish out of water, like he didn't truly belong anywhere he had his relationships with Walter and Olivia to tether him. Now those relationships are just phantasms in his mind and he has to fight to get them all back, if he wants them.

milostanfield said...

@ Kit:
excellent observation. I like the "fish out of water" phrase, given his reappearance in Reiden Lake. You said "…if he wants them": do you think Peter will go rogue? It would be a fascinating twist to see him as an "antagonist", though I doubt it would be permanent given his own personal growth over the first 3 seasons, but he is in a really unique situation. I think he will earn the trust of Lincoln and Broyles (he solves cases) before Olivia and Walter, and that may keep him from going rogue while sorting out the W & O issues.

This series needs an antagonist badly like it had in Season 3 with Walternate (and the machine), even if it has to be Peter for a while, or else the whole relationship thing by itself will turn the show into a soap opera. Nadine is a promising start, though the new shapeshifters may just be someone's agents. I am not sure if that someone is Walternate. Just a bit too obvious, ya think?.

Mustbetuesday said...

No thanks, havin Peter become the antagonist will just make the Olivia fans annoyingly complain about him being mean to poor old Olivia.

I think Nadine Park works for David Robert Jones. And for the soap opera, to continue on the path where P&O are never really together is typically soap opera, (like in Castle !) if they finally are together, it could allow the show to focus on the story, the mythology, and P&O are never going to be in a quiet and boring relationship, because they have so many things and cases to solve, they would be stronger together and could fix the world...
