"Beyond The Fringe" Comic Collection Out Now

      Email Post       9/06/2012 01:31:00 PM

Hot on the heels of FRINGE Season 4 being released on DVD and Blu-Ray Tuesday, the previously online-only series Beyond The Fringe has been collected into a trade paperback that appeared yesterday in comic stores.

The collection makes the entire recent series, including Joshua Jackson's acclaimed Peter And The Machine, finally available in print, although Jackson's story did appear earlier this year as a one-shot issue.

Speaking of that tale, specially marked copies of the Season 4 set are available at Best Buy that come with a mini-comic of the Jackson story. A yellow sticker on the front of the DVD or Blu-Ray will alert you to it being included inside.

Hijinks Ensue: The Fringe Candidates

      Email Post       1/26/2012 01:36:00 PM

Here is a funny cartoon from Hijinks Ensue that combines two of the four things you will find if you Google "Fringe" (the other two are haircuts and art festivals).

On the Hijinks Ensue blog for this strip, they comment further on thier love for Fringe:
Sorry, non-Fringe fans. Not because you don’t get this comic, but because you aren’t enjoying the best show on TV. This will likely be Fringe’s final season (a year sooner than J.J. Abrams would like), due to it being too fantastic to be profitable. This seems to be the fate of all original, thought-provoking, well acted (extremely well acted in the case of John “Please let me curl up in your grandpa cheeks” Noble), well produced sci-fi on television. Any show that refuses to dumb down it’s intensely complicated, yet expertly executed premise in order to reach a wider audience just isn’t commercially viable on TV. More...

Q&A WITH FRINGE STAR JOSH JACKSON

      Email Post       9/28/2011 09:17:00 PM

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011
By Brandy Phillips

We had an opportunity to ask FRINGE star Josh Jackson a few questions about his role as a writer on the new digital comic series BEYOND THE FRINGE, here’s what he had to say:

THE SOURCE: How did you get involved with this project?
JOSH JACKSON: I’m not sure who above my pay grade made the choice to ask me but, I was brought in when our producers where looking for writers for the new run of Fringe comics.

TS: Are you a big comics reader or fan?
JJ:
Like just about every guy my age comics were a huge part of growing up. I have probably spent thousands of hours debating ‘who would win’ and ‘which powers kick ass more’ But lately I tend to read longer form graphic novels.

TS: What has it been like for you to write a comic, do you enjoy the process?
JJ:
Writing in comic form is totally different from standard script writing. Thankfully I had a couple helpers to get me used to writing panel by panel instead of scene by scene.

TS: What can we expect from “Beyond the Fringe”?
JJ:
From my portion of it, I hope that it will fill in a piece of Peters’ story in a satisfying way.

TS: How does the comic tie to season four of the show?
JJ:
You’ll have to read ‘em and find out!

Tales From The Fringe Animated Graphic Novel

      Email Post       1/22/2011 02:25:00 AM

In the Fringe episode "The Firefly", the Observer talks to Walter about how "every action causes ripples, consequences both obvious and... unforeseen."

The Tales From The Fringe animated graphic novel shows the story of what happened when one little boy caught a firefly. The novel is divided into five chapters:
  • The Observer confirms the future.
  • ...every action causes ripples.
  • I couldn't have known that...
  • A chain of events are in motion.
  • He is still alive.
He are all of the videos combined into one.

Tales from the Fringe Paperback Release Pushed to February

Tales from the Fringe Paperback Release Pushed to February By Sam McPherson on January 12th, 2011

It was originally slated to hit at the end of this month, but now it seems that fans will have to wait just a bit longer for the compilation volume Tales from the Fringe. The graphic novel, made up of the six year's of last year's eponymous comic series, was originally slated for a January 20 release. Now, it seems, fans will have to wait an additional month to get their hands on the book. A new release date, slated for February 22, has been posted on Amazon.

The most recent comic was released just this month, which is a possible explanation for the compilation's tardiness.

I'll be providing a full review of Tales from the Fringe in the days leading up to the graphic novel's release next month, but I will tell you that it's certainly worth the buy for any fan of Fringe: character backgrounds of characters like Olivia, Peter, Broyles, Nina, and Astrid are fully fleshed out, and Gene the cow has an awesome storyline himself. The 144-page novel will also be peppered with mini Fringe cases, which deal with everything from zombies to sea monsters. It's all up to the Fringe-set standard of weird, believe me.

You can pre-order Tales from the Fringe on Amazon for $10.11.
