Observer Talk Catch Up

      Email Post       1/14/2013 08:19:00 AM

It has been a while since I created an Observer Talk post so I thought it was time to catch up on the small amount of Observer language we have seen in recent episodes.

First is the poster to the left, which was first seen in the episode Five Twenty Ten

This version of the poster was included as an image released as part of the Fox Now app for a later episode.

Ministry of Science is translated of course, but the second section of observer language says "Brooklyn Division" which is different to the English equivalent.

Next was The Human Kind there were two instances of Reward Wire in evidence.

During the latest fantastic episode of Fringe there was nothing for us to translate, although we did see Windmark writing in another notebook.

Do the observers distrust technology when writing, or do their implants automatically record what they write and store it online in the big oberver collective database ?

There is something from the episode that I think needs a little discussion.

Observer Talk - An Origin Story

This week I think we got only the second on screen attempt to decode the observer language, the first being way back in season 1.

However as usual this new notebook contains yet more different symbols, Astrid's epiphany explanation is that the symbols may have multiple meanings and one symbol may represent different English letters depending on your perception. So it is most probable that there are multiple observer character sets that translate to the same English letter.

Observer Talk - The Bullet That Saved The World

The events of this weeks episode are still rippling through the Fringe fan community, but I'm not going to touch on that in this article.

As in previous editions I want to talk about the use of the Observer language both seen and unseen in this episode, and elsewhere around the internet.

First to discuss is September's Notebook, not the one we have seen in the show, but the forthcoming book by Tara Bennett and Paul Terry.

The front cover of which has some observer writing and this translates to "a cautionary tale"

Observer Talk - In Absentia

I hope you were all paying attention to the weeks Fringe activities, there is much to discuss.

In the episode the most obvious usage of the observer language symbols was the face tattoos that Peter and Etta both had to wear.

Serve for Peter and Obey for Etta, milostansfield mentioned in the comments of last weeks Observer Talk that the type of tattoo is possibly a rank or hierarchy of some sort. Obey for civilians, Heed for ordinary guards, and Serve for full soldiers.

Hello, welcome to a new feature on Fringe Television, hopefully this will be a weekly post for this season, but that really depends on the Observers !

I want to start analysing the Observer language from each episode and seeing if there is anything it can tell us.

First though you will have to go though an Observer Langauge primer to understand why it is so interesting
