2012 Saturn Award Winners in TV: 'Breaking Bad', 'Fringe' and 'Walking Dead'
July 27, 2012 08:30:03 GMT
by AceShowBiz.com
The crime drama series leads the pack with three nods, the sci-fi drama trails behind with two gongs, while 'The Walking Dead' and 'Teen Wolf' are among other shows which take home one prize each.

The 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards is yet to be held, but "Breaking Bad" has added trophies to its shelves. The AMC drama series edged out other scripted shows on cable channels to nab the Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series title at the 38th Annual Saturn Awards. It took home two other kudos through Bryan Cranston's win for Best TV Actor and Aaron Paul's victory for Best Supporting Actor on Television.

Another coveted prize, the Best Network Television Series award, went to "Fringe" which was snubbed in the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Award nomination list. The show's lead actress Anna Torv was additionally hailed as Best Actress on Television.

The rest of the awards in TV field were snatched by cable series, such as AMC's "The Walking Dead" which nabbed the Best Television Presentation, and MTV's "Teen Wolf" which was named the Best Youth-Oriented Television Series. Other AMC show "The Killing" collected one accolade through Michelle Forbes' win for Best Supporting Actress, while TNT's "Leverage" led Tom Skerritt to grab a trophy through his guest stint.

A gala for this year's Saturn Awards was held Thursday, July 26 night in Burbank, California. It presented prizes for TV shows, movies and DVDs for science fiction, fantasy and horror genres. It additionally handed out some Special Achievement Awards, with the long-running animated series "The Simpsons" being honored with The Milestone Award.

In this episode of The Fringe Podcast we wrap up season 2 of our Fringe rewatch with our discussion of the episodes, “Northwest Passage,” “Over There Part 1,” “Over There Part 2,” and “Unearthed.” We discuss the revealations that “Mr. Secretary” is Walternate, our impressions of the alternate characters now that we’ve seen the end of their story arc, Peter and Olivia’s destiny to be together, and the mind blowing season finale. We also dicuss some of the comments that Joel Wyman made at comic-con and how they add new revelation to these episodes. In our discussion about “Unearthed” we talk about science vs. religion and how it was handled in this episode, and eliments from the episode that made it into stories that were aired in later episodes.

The Fringe Podcast Comic-Con Fringe Press Room Podcast

      Email Post       7/18/2012 12:48:00 AM

In this episode of The Fringe Podcast we bring you the audio interviews we conducted with Lance Reddick, Joel Wyman, John Noble, Jasika Nicole, Anna Torv and Josh Jackson right after the final Fringe panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2012. We hear each of them discuss the impact and legacy of the show, and Joel says that it has shown how important media, social media and grass roots campaigns are. Joel also shares how he came up with the idea of White Tulip. He told us, “that image came to me in a dream, and it meant something. It meant hope and that it’s okay, and this concept of ‘I don’t know what the hell’s wrong with the world, but there’s some method of peace that I can find, and belief in something good.’” Joel also told us that season 5 of Fringe is everything you know about Fringe coming back as a love letter.

When Lance Reddick was asked about Fringe’s legacy he said he believed it will be the relationships. John Noble agreed saying, “We have these intense relationships. These are really rich relationships and that’s what makes Fringe different from other shows.” Regarding how he would like to see Walter’s story resolved he said, “If a man, through his hubris and his misplaced love, his obsessiveness, and his self-centeredness, and his arrogance, performs an act which creates as much havoc as Walter did, and then as a human being suffered the consequences, then I reckon he has to be responsible for what happened. Now he has to face it, look it in the eye, and do something about it. That would be a glorious character arc to take.”

Several members of the cast are asked about their feelings going in to the final season. Each of them said they were happy and relieved that they would get to resolve the story and put a proper end to Fringe. Jasika Nicole stated that, “it feels like this is going to be the easiest thing ever. All we get to do is have fun and we get to tell a really good story because that’s the priority. It’s not about numbers, it’s not about money anymore…and we’re going to tell the best story that we can tell.”

In our time with Anna Torv, she opens up about what has made her most proud about working on Fringe and shares a few secrets about how she might have played Olivia differently had she known from the beginning of season 4 that Peter was in the proper timeline all along.

There are a lot of other great moments in the interview. For example, when John talks about his favorite Walter scene and Josh tells us how much of a gift John Noble has been to Fringe and the sci-fi genre. We have the entire press room session available as a podcast and you can listen to it using the audio player below.

Send in your thoughts about the interviews to 304-837-2278 or feedback@thefringepodcast.com.

The live blog for the San Diego Comic Con 2012 Fringe Panel
July 15, 2012 by Marisa Roffman

10:10 AM – The sizzle reel just ended and now it’s time for the panel!
10:11 AM – The Con officials didn’t want to let the fans raise their white tulips and they did it anyway. Go fans!
10:12 AM – Blair Brown isn’t here, so J.H. Wyman films a video of the fans saying “We miss you, Blair!”
10:13 AM – It’s official: “It’s going to pick up exactly where we left off in 4×19…the next day,” Wyman says of season 5.

10:15 AM – “I had two and a half versions of what we could do for the end and…then it became very clear,” Wyman says of the series’ ending. The cast does know where the show is going, and they’re happy about having that information.

10:16 AM – “Just as you guys want the show, we all want the show to end well…to give us the chance to give it our best,” Josh Jackson says.

10:18 AM – Fans can have the opportunity to have their name in an official FRINGE book about September’s observations of the people. (Additional nfo to come later.) Why they’re doing this for the fans: “This is the little show that could and I can’t believe we’re here,” Wyman says. “I appreciate it so much.”

10:19 AM – Jasika Nicole is talking about the Walter-Astrid relationship. She says she was trying convince herself it was OK if she got killed off, but, “I didn’t die! I made it to the fifth season!”

10:22 AM – Nicole shares that Lance Reddick tried to hide out in Comic-Con by wearing a BREAKING BAD hat and it so didn’t work out, but she was able to hide out.

10:23 AM – “I would like to aspire to the nobility that Peter has developed over the five years,” Josh Jackson says of what he has learned from Peter over the past five seasons.

10:24 AM – Fans misinterpret Anna Torv’s use of the word “come” and let’s just say there was way too much inappropriate laughter from both the fans and the panelists.

10:27 AM – “What we’ve learned is about the power of love,” John Noble says. “Though all of the science fiction and the hurdles we’ve had to go through, it’s the love.”

It's been a busy day in social media and at the San Diego Comic Con for Fringe, and here's a fun interview filmed today with Anna Torv, John Noble, Joshua Jackson, and Lance Reddick by Entertainment Weekly.
"Tomorrow's panel" they are referring to is, of course, the last Fringe Q&A panel ever at the SDCC, which will take place Sunday at 10AM Pacific Time.

Loyalty Is Opportunity!

In the TV Guide Comic-Con Special, one of whose four covers is devoted to FRINGE, you'll find the amusing full page ad depicted above. As you can see, it declares that Loyalty Is Opportunity and encourages you to Join Us. Underneath this are the words HEED OBEY SERVE in the Observer alphabet and the final helpful note For More Information, Contact Your Local Representative. There's no mention of the show's name at all (not that there needs to be!) and there are ads for the upcoming series The Following and Arrow that use the same technique of appearing to come from the reality of the show without naming names. So what are you waiting for? Get down to that recruiting office!

In this episode of The Fringe Podcast we continue our summer rewatch of Fringe season 1 through 4. In this episode we discuss the season 2 Fringe episodes, “Johari Window,” “What Lies Below,” “The Bishop Revival,” “Jacksonville,” and “Peter.” This episode features community members Hank, Devynn, and first timer, Erin. They provided some very excellent anf insightful contributions and we are grateful for their participation. We discuss several of the ways that these episodes tie in to episodes from Season 4 and speculate on how they might even tie in to what we hope to see in season 5. We discuss the continued build up of Peter’s origin, the parallels with William Bell’s season 4 motivations, “Back to the Future,” and the Walter vs. Walternate dynamic.
