First Annual TV Overmind Awards

      Email Post       12/31/2010 10:34:00 AM

The TV Overmind website is hosting its very First Annual TV Overmind Rewards, which runs from December 30th to January 1st.
You will be happy to know that Fringe already won the "Smartest Show" category yesterday taking 67% of the vote! Leonard Nimoy won the "Best Guest Star-Drama" award.

Visiting this website and voting for the categories which include Fringe and its characters would be a great way to show your support for the series.
Please vote today for Fringe for "Best Show on Fox."
That poll closes today at 2:35PM EST. Fringe is currently leading that category with 65% of the vote! Also, vote today for Anna Torv in the category "Best Actress in a Drama." She's currently winning that category with 65% of the vote! That poll closes at 6:45PM EST today.

Later today there will be a category "Best Network Show," and I suspect Fringe may be a nominee in that. Also later today, "Best Actor in a Drama," and John Noble is up against some stiff competition in that category. He could win if enough people vote for him later today.

Amongst tomorrow's polls:"Best Show of 2010," and Fringe stands a very good chance of winning that with your help!

Please vote via the link below and support Fringe and its actors!

Amazon is running a special promotion for their Video on Demand service, and we thought this would be a good way to show some support for Fringe.

Sign up before January 1st for the "Tweet and Get $5 as Amazon Video On Demand" to get your $5 VOD credit (US residents only), then use that credit to buy two episodes of Fringe.

Fringe Season 3 is currently ranked #34 in the top Video On Demand TV Shows. It would be great if everyone would buy two Fringe Season 3 episodes ($1.99 each) and see if we can move Fringe up to the top ten!

FYI, I'm buying Entrada and Marionette... what episodes will you buy?

UPDATE: The promotion has ended. Fringe Season 3 moved up four spots to #30 in top Video On Demand TV Shows. Based on orders placed through the links on this site, the most popular downloaded episodes were: Entrada, Marionette, Olivia, The Plateau, Pilot, The Abducted, and The Box. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Fringe Makes More Top Ten Lists

      Email Post       12/24/2010 02:46:00 PM

Fringe has made two more "Top Ten Lists" for 2010.

New York Post: Drama mama - The 10 characters that made Mama's year merry and bright

1. Faux-livia of "Fringe"
The classic soapy example of an evil twin breathing new life into the original character.

Christmas Ideas For Fringe Fans

      Email Post       12/23/2010 04:18:00 PM

If you are still doing your Christmas shopping, and need some last minute Fringe stocking stuffers, here is a list of Fringe and Fringe-related gifts ideas.

Sadly, there isn't any actual official Fringe merchandise available for sale, but number one on everyone's Christmas list should be the Fringe DVDs and Blu-rays

Music lovers will also want the Fringe Soundtrack, featuring music from the award winning composer Michael Giacchino, plus Chris Tilton and Chad Seiter.

The album is also available as MP3s from Amazon, or for your iPod on iTunes.

You will also see something called the Fringe Mixes, which is seven remixed versions of the Fringe title theme song, but you would really have to like the theme song to buy that.

If you have a comic book store near you, you can pick up some Fringe comics. There have been two six-issue series - Fringe #1 - 6, and the latest, Tales From The Fringe #1 - 6. The first series is also available in a combined paperback book.

You can preview all of the Fringe comics here.

"Ten Reasons We Loved Watching TV in 2010"

Ten Reasons We Loved Watching TV in 2010
Griping about the low quality of television content has become a popular pastime over the last few years, but, provided you view the medium with a certain level of discernment, 2010 was a great year for TV. Here are ten reasons why, in no particular order.
by IMDb-Editors last updated - 6 days ago

4/11“ "Fringe" Borrowing from past anthology-style genre shows such as "The X-Files," the developing mythology within "Fringe" grew from weekly explorations of weirdness into a romantic tragedy that explores betrayal, despair, love and forgiveness, all within the framework of parallel universes colliding, each threatening the existence of the other. As complex and creepy as it can seem at times, the reasons "Fringe" continues to fascinate us are fairly simple: at its center, it's about all the ways human emotions can bind, destroy, heal and sustain us. And thanks to John Noble's not-quite-sane genius scientist Walter Bishop, "Fringe" never lets us forget how important it is to take time out for the sweet things in life...like, say, a good bowl of pudding. ”

Firefly-Style Opening for Fringe

      Email Post       12/19/2010 05:20:00 PM

The next episode of Fringe has the same title as the Joss Whedon sci-fi series, "Firefly". YouTube user Gualcit has created a brilliant Firefly-style opening theme for Fringe.

And since I couldn't find it easily on Youtube, here is the original opening theme for comparison. If you haven't seen the original series, and the followup movie "Serenity", I highly recommend them.

Fox Executive Responds to "Friday Night Re-Animation" Video

      Email Post       12/17/2010 02:08:00 AM

Jeff Jensen of Entertainment Weekly has a very interesting article about Fringe's move to Friday, and the so called "Deathslot" video.
To further combat the perception that Fox has basically issued a “no confidence” vote in Fringe, the network did something unusual: It created a cheeky promo that tackles the fear-mongering head-on, spliced with darkly comic death-themed clips from the show and even spiked with quotes from a variety of Chicken Little bloggers.

Jeff talked to Dean Norris, Fox’s senior VP of marketing and special projects, about about the inspiration for the video:
The network began thinking about creating the provocative spot after making a Web splash with its movie-style trailer for “Entrada,” ... “We started getting feedback from the viewers that basically said, ‘How could Fox do something so cool for a show they’re going to kill?’ We started reading these things and said, ‘Wait! We have to address this!’” The mission was to produce a piece of communication that dealt with the situation in a self-deprecating fashion, yet also assuaged fan fears.
Of course, the BEST way to "assuage fan fears" would be to renew Fringe for a fourth season. Are you listening Mr. Norris?

Norris also revealed Fox's "interesting" new marketing strategy:
The promo is the beginning of a larger effort by Fox to shore up Fringe’s existing fanbase and hopefully grow the audience by targeting teen viewers who might be at home Friday night. (The show returns on Jan. 21) Fox will continue posting “pre-caps” (as opposed to “recaps”) at Fox.com featuring cast members and producers setting up each new episode. For viewers, they’re a more entertaining and personal approach to “Previously on…” rehashes. Additionally, Norris also says future on-air promos will emphasize Fringe’s horror elements, albeit not right away, as the first episodes on the new year are relatively light on Fringe-style gore.  “We are trying to rebrand Friday, and what we’re trying to do with this show specifically is make it kind of like forbidden fruit,” says Norris. “We want that teen demographic that might not be our audience right now to say, ‘That this is a show my parents might not want me to watch — but I’m going to watch it, anyway.’”

I love me some "Fringe Cringe", but I'm not sure that turning Fringe into Tales From the Crypt is the right way to go. What do you think of this approach?

Spoilers for 310 "Firefly"

      Email Post       12/16/2010 06:35:00 PM

Hi guys, I am writing this post to share a theory/spoiler about the episode 310 “Firefly.” Have any of you watched the Tales From The Fringe videos that the Sprint site releases every week? If you haven't, you must see it to understand this spoiler. Click here to watch the videos.

After you have seen all the videos, ask yourself how it is that the Peter and Walter scene from the previous episode connects to the story of Bobby.

It makes more sense if you also read this spoiler from EW:

Christopher Lloyd on Fringe

True! Back to the Future‘s Doc Brown has been cast as a musical hero of Walter’s who’s been in a nursing home and becomes the subject of a Fringe investigation. “Christopher plays Roscoe Joyce, a keyboardist for Walter’s favorite 1970′s band Violet Sedan Chair,” explains exec producer J.H. Wyman. Fellow EP Jeff Pinkner adds, “The lives of these two men, who have never met before, overlap in strange and unexpected ways.”
Don’t see the connection? Let me explain:

In the comic, the young man's name is Bobby Joyce, and his father is a musician (a.k.a. the character play by Christopher Lloyd). In Bobby’s dream, his father is very old and lives in a nursing home. Later, we see a boy (we never saw his face) catch a firefly that was supposed to fly 3 miles further so Madison (the little girl that gives Bobby the penny so he can call his dad) can catch it. Because the boy interfered, Madison didn’t catch the firefly and got lost in the forest trying to catch another one. Her father searches for her and, as a result, is late for work. As he hurries to his job, we hear the song “Hovercraft Mother” by Violet Sedan Chair. Madison’s father runs a red light and kills Bobby. Then we see the same scene from 309, “Marionette.” Why?.

I think the boy who catches the firefly is actually Peter. He wasn't supposed to catch the firefly, because he is dead in this reality, but the fact that he’s here changes the future for Bobby, and probably for his dad, too.

Fringe Review: Marionette

“She’s taken everything.”

I wondered last week why the Fringe powers that be didn’t use the last episode—specifically, Olivia’s return—as the mid-season finale. It was exhilarating, fast-paced, and nicely concluded one phase of the longer story about the two worlds. Now that I’ve seen “Marionette,” I understand.

    "Entrada" Into The Vortex

          Email Post       12/08/2010 11:49:00 PM

Even if you haven't been watching Fringe since the pilot, you may have noticed that some episodes just stand out more than others. 'Entrada' is one of those. I was not at all surprised to see 'Entrada' was written by executive producers Jeff Pinkner and Joel Wyman. How could I tell? This episode was riveting, smooth, and flowing. Despite all the back and forth action between universes, we viewers could keep up with it.

In reviewing "Entrada," which is most likely the best Season III episode to date, let's start with its glyph word, "CROSS." There are at least 4 crossing situations in this episode(if you find more let me know.) Peter Bishop finally realizes FauxLivia has crossed him. AlternateBroyles crosses Walternate(yikes!), FauxLivia crosses over to her side, and our poor Olivia crosses back to ours. That's a lot of action in a less than one hour show, and the brilliant thing is Pinkner and Wyman packed more into the episode than just that.

Tweet-along LIVE with your favorite FRINGE cast members. During next week's all-new episode, members of the cast and crew will join you here to share insider info and answer questions from Fringe fans. It's almost like communicating with the alternate universe. Only cooler.

The details are a little scarce, but hopefully tweets will be appearing online only, and not on the screen. Displaying tweets on-screen was tried once before with Fringe "Tweet-peats" and it was a disaster. However, we did get some interesting information about the show.

The Fringe Now tweet-along site currently shows on John Noble signed up, but it is likely (based on the previous attempt) that the following cast and crew might be available:

Start thinking up your questions now!

UPDATE: The Tweet-Along page has been updated, and it appears that only(!) John Noble will be tweeting.

Fringe Exec Producer Not Worried About Move To Friday

          Email Post       12/02/2010 02:32:00 PM

Fringe executive producers Jeff Pinkner spoke with Fancast about the move to Friday nights (in January), and he seems very optimistic:
“What is ironic is that for the last year, all the message boards have been saying ‘Please move the show off of Thursday nights,’ so it is sort of one of those ‘Be careful what you wish for things,’” executive producer Jeff Pinkner says of the move, which starts in January.

“From the inside, you know when you are losing support from your network and studio partners, Pinkner says. “For us it has been just the opposite.”
“Our show has developed a devoted, rabid fan base. Our critical praise has never been higher. And our fan support has never been more passionate. If we can translate that to Friday nights, which has much lower expectations, we will be around for a good long time.”

Matt Roush of TV Guide also had this to say:
"It's worth noting that [Fringe] is a fairly well-established show whose creative vitals are still strong. Fox executives note that its DVR playback numbers are robust, which counts for something. And many in the media like it — Fringe was just spotlighted on the cover of TV Guide's Sci-Fi Preview — and we aren't likely to let it stay unnoticed in its new period. Plus, expectations will be so low that if Fringe holds on to a fair percentage of its loyal Thursday audience, it will be seen as a win."
So, while it seems that Fringe's move to Friday may not be the end of the world, it is important to keep showing your enthusiastic support. Recording Fringe on your Tivo/DVR, watching it online (at Fringe Episodes, Fox.com, or Hulu), and buying episodes on Amazon or iTunes helps a little, but the most important thing you can do is to WATCH FRINGE LIVE ON FRIDAY NIGHTS! Nothing else even comes close to showing your support by keeping those Neilson ratings up, and that can only happen if you watch it live on FOX.

What's Your Favorite Fringe Episode So Far?

          Email Post       11/30/2010 11:04:00 AM

SpoilerTV has compiled a list of every Fringe episode poll they have conducted, ranking the episodes by popularity. The top five episodes, based on average poll rating:
    1. The Abducted (#307)
    2. Jacksonville (#201)
    3. Grey Matters (#210)
    4. Peter (#215)
    5. Over There, Part 1 (#221)
They match our own poll results pretty closely, although we would add "August (#208)" and "Over There, Part 2 (#222)" into the mix.

At the bottom of the list, their least popular episodes were:
    43. Night Of Desirable Objects (#202)
    44. Power Hungry (#105)
    45. Earthling (#206)
    46. Unearthed (#121)
    47. Brown Betty (#219)

Again, the bottom of our barrel is very similar, with the addition of "The Bishop Revival (#213)" and "Johari Window (#211)".

Of course these polls are completely unscientific, and based on an incomplete result set (SpoilerTV didn't poll for the first 3 Fringe episodes, and we didn't start polling until season 2). However, since their results match ours so closely, there must be some truth in these numbers.

You can see our poll results after the jump, or check out the Fringe Episodes section to see individual polls.

Tell us what your favorite (an least favorite) Fringe episodes are in the comments.

    Fringe Review: The Abducted

“I won’t forget what you did here.”

So now Olivia knows that Broyles knows what she knows. Walternate knows that Olivia knows what he worried she knew. And Peter knows what he didn’t know (despite my theory that he did know): he knows that what he thought he knew is wrong. The question is: when will Fauxlivia know what Peter now knows, and what will she do with that knowledge?

Fringe to move to Friday night in January

          Email Post       11/19/2010 11:32:00 PM

Fox has released it's mid season schedule shake up, and Fringe finds itself being bumped to Friday night 9PM starting on 28th January. Known as the 'death' night in the US TV stakes, fans are understandably upset and disappointed by the move. That being said, there are also some positives that can come from the move. No longer will it be competing with the Thursday night powerhouses, but I believe it can make an ever bigger name for itself here.

Fans need to step up to the plate here and keep watching!! Fringe fans are loyal, so let's get together and make sure that we follow it wherever it goes, and spread to the word far and wide - Fringe is an awesome show that many, many more people SHOULD be watching!

Below is the press release from FOX Network President Kevin Reilly on Fringe's move and we can definitely take some positives from it:

"As for the decision to bump Fringe to Fridays, “Fringe has a very particular, loyal audience,” Reilly said. With the show picking up almost half of its viewrship via DVR, he doesn’t expect the sci-fi series to take a big ratings hit in moving to Fridays where it will be paired with solid reality performer Kitchen Nightmares. “If (Fringe) could stay near the current levels, we’ll get a big trade-up on Friday and will solve our problem there.”
    - Kevin Reilly (FOX Network President)

What are your thoughts Fringe fans?!
