Fringe Season 5 Now Available on Blu-ray and DVD

      Email Post       5/07/2013 03:34:00 PM

"The Complete Fifth And Final Season of Fringe" is now avaiable!

The DVD version is currently priced at $22.99 (list price $39.98) and the Blu-ray version is $27.99 (list price $49.99)!

Also, if you join Amazon Prime, you can watch Fringe Season 1, 2, 3, and 4 for FREE using Amazon Instant Video, plus you get:
  • FREE Two-Day Shipping on millions of items
  • No minimum order size
  • Unlimited instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows with Prime Instant Videos
  • A Kindle book to borrow for free each month from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library
Best Buy is also matching Amazon's prices today for both the Blu-ray and DVD.

The extras on the Blu-ray version include:
  • Audio Commentary: Executive producer J.H. Wyman and editor Jon Dudkowski deliver a serviceable overview of "Black Blotter" and the series' run, touching on bits and pieces of the rest of the season as well. Unfortunately, The Complete Fifth and Final Season is somewhere in the neighborhood of twelve commentaries too short. It would have been far more exciting to have at least one commentary per episode and to hear from more of the cast and crew.
  • A Farewell to Fringe (HD, 21 minutes): Series creator/executive producer J.J. Abrams, executive producer J.H. Wyman, co-executive producer David Fury, and actors John Noble, Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, Jasika Nicole and Lance Reddick reminisce about the series' early days, five season run, and dramatic conclusion, intercut with behind-the-scenes footage, archive interviews, clips from the show and a look at the filming of the finale.
  • Season 5 Comic-Con Panel (HD, 29 minutes): TV Guide's Damian Holbrook hosts a Q&A session with Wyman, Noble, Torv, Jackson, Nicole and Reddick at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Stories, laughs and even a few tears ensue.
  • Dissected Files (HD, 2 minutes): Two trivial deleted scenes: "Walter's Brain" and "Observer in the Closet."
  • Gag Reel (HD, 2 minutes): Standard outtake fare.
  • Finale Script (HD)

Amazon Lists The Complete Fourth Season of Fringe on DVD & Blu-ray for Pre-Order

      Email Post       6/08/2012 09:00:00 PM

It's a great feeling when Amazon.com lists the previous season of Fringe available for pre-order!
According to Amazon, both the DVD and Blu-ray versions will be available on September 4th, 2012, which is 17 days before the Season 5 premiere date.
But tread cautiously, as last year fans were promised an earlier release like this only to have it show up just days before Season 4 began. Regardless, it's good news, and there's no time like the present to get ordered-up. The DVD set is priced at $41.99 and the Blu-Ray set at $48.99.

Fringe Season 3 Blu-ray Unboxing

      Email Post       9/20/2011 08:10:00 PM

Fringe Season 3 is out today on Blu-ray and DVD. The Blu-ray is available at Amazon for $44.99, and the DVD is $36.99. Both qualify for free shipping.

Best Buy has an exclusive "lenticular" cover (seen below) that shows the Blue or Red universe depending on how you look. However, they are priced $10 more than Amazon, but you do get a $10 Best Buy gift card with purchase.

The 22 episodes are spread over four blu-ray discs, and contains 3 hours of bonus material, including the Blu-ray exclusive "Glimmer to the Other Side". Here is a full summary of the extras from Blu-Ray.com:
The 4-disc Blu-ray release of Fringe: The Complete Third Season isn't exhaustive -- two audio commentaries and an hour of extras doesn't amount to much -- but it does feature a first for a Warner television release: a Maximum Episode Mode Picture-in-Picture experience. Sure, it's only available for one episode, but if future Warner releases follow suit (particularly if more episodes are explored per season), TV fans are in for a real treat.
  • Audio Commentaries: Two audio commentaries are available: "The Plateau" on Disc One, with executive producer Jeff Pinkner, writer/co-executive producer Monica Owusu-Breen and editor Timothy A. Good, and "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" on Disc Four, with producer Tanya Swerling, editor Luyen Vu and visual effects supervisor Jay Worth. Both tracks are informative, I'll give them that, but the cast is sorely missed. And with twenty-two episodes spread across four discs, a whopping two crew commentaries just doesn't cut it.
  • Maximum Episode Mode: Glimmer to the Other Side (Disc 3, HD, 46 minutes): Executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman host this single-episode twist on Warner's Maximum Movie Mode formula, and it's a blast; such a blast that it's a shame more episodes don't feature a MEM track. What awaits those who venture into Episode 16, "OS," with the Maximum Episode Mode engaged? Interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, optional production featurettes, special effects breakdowns and more, all courtesy of a dynamic Picture-in-Picture window that sometimes houses the MEM content and sometimes houses the episode itself (so the MEM content can have more room to breathe). It's hands down the best feature in the set.
  • Duality of Worlds (Disc 4, HD, 30 minutes): Explore Walternate's universe in four production featurettes: "The Other You," "Visualizing an Alternate World," "A Machine of Destiny" and "The Psychology of Duality."
  • Constructing an Extra-Sensory Soundscape (Disc 4, HD, 7 minutes): How does the Fringe creative team tamper with your psyche? Through sound effects, music cues and other sonic sleight of hand.
  • Secrets of Fringe: The First People (Disc 4, HD, 2 minutes): An all-too-brief Q&A session with Jeff Pinkner and Jay Worth about The First People and their place in the series.
  • Gag Reel (Disc 4, HD, 3 minutes): Simple, funny and to the point. Just how I like my outtakes.
  • Animating "The Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" (Disc 4, HD, 8 minutes): A look at Episode 19's jump-the-shark animated sequences and the deadlines that propelled it.
  • Network Promos (Disc 4, HD, 6 minutes): Three lengthy promos round out the package.
  • BD-Live Functionality

The mystery of the universes deepens in the critically acclaimed 22-episode third season of television's most exciting sci-fi. The Fringe team escapes from the parallel universe - except for Olivia, trapped in the other world and replaced in ours by her double, who turns Peter and Olivia's tentative relationship into a love affair. Then Olivia returns, bonds of trust fray, ever more bizarre and terrifying phenomena occur and secrets that stretch back to 1985 threaten to destroy our universe. Or theirs.

Confirming the information we passed along in March, today Warner Home Video announced the DVD and Blu-ray versions of Fringe - The Complete 3rd Season will come out on September 6th. The 6-disc DVD set will cost $59.98 SRP with anamorphic widescreen video, audio options including English Dolby Surround 5.1 and Portuguese 2.0 Stereo, and subtitles in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Thai, Chinese plus closed captioning. The 4-disc Blu-ray version will be in high-def widescreen video, English DTS HD-Master Audio 5.1, and subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish, all at a cost of $69.97 SRP. Both version can be pre-ordered from Amazon at a discount. Package art isn't available so far, but here's a list of the bonus material that the studio provided:

Fringe Season 2 Blu-Ray Unboxing

Here is a quick look at the Fringe season 2 Blu-ray box and insides. The 22 episodes (plus one bonus season 1 episode) are spread across 4 Blu-ray discs.

Blu-ray.com has an in depth review of the contents, but aside from the episodes, you'll find:
  • Audio Commentaries: for "Momentum Deferred," "Brown Betty," and "Over There, Part 2."
  • The Unearthed Episode: The unearthed episode from Season 1 is presented on Disc Four rather than amongst the official second-season eps, making its appearance far less jarring and far less confusing.
  • Analyzing the Scene: Mini-documentaries offering episode-specific peeks into the series' production. Six all-too-short featurettes are available alongside "A New Day in the Old Town," "Momentum Deferred," "Of Human Action," "What Lies Below," "Brown Betty," and "Over There, Part 2."
  • Dissected Files: Deleted scenes from "Night of Desirable Objects," "Grey Matters," "Olivia, in the Lab, with the Revolver," "Northwest Passage," and "Over There, Part 2."
  • Beyond the Pattern: The Mythology of Fringe: A beefy, extensive and entertaining Season Two documentary.
  • In the Lab: John Noble and prop master Rob Smith take viewers on a tour of the Fringe Lab set and show off the gizmos and gadgets therein.
  • Unusual Side Effects: Watch the cast giggle and snicker through a familiar mix of miscues and bumbled lines. You can see the Fringe season 2 gag reel here.

BTW, did anyone else have any trouble finding the Fringe Season 2 Blu-rays/DVDs? The first store I went to (Walmart) only carried the DVDs - and they were sold out! The second store I tried (Best Buy) didn't have the Blu-rays on display with the new releases, or in the regular TV section.

Did you buy you Fringe Season 2 yet? If so, which version did you buy?

Fringe Season 1 DVD and Blu-Ray Out Today

      Email Post       9/08/2009 09:08:00 AM

The Fringe Season 1 Blu-ray & DVDs come out today. But, before you head off to your local video store, you may want to consider your "exclusive bonus" options.

Best Buy is featuring an exclusive mini-comic book.

UPDATE: The comic book is essentially a combination of the Fringe Preview Comic from ComicCon 08, some of the Fringe Preview Comic profiles (Charlie, John Scott, and Nina are missing...), and the first Bishop & Bell comic - "Like Minds".

Target is including a bonus DVD which includes the 30 minute Q&A session at PaleyFest 09. You can see a 5-minute preview of the video at the PaleyFest website

If you are planning to order from Amazon, you can order them here:
The DVD box set is very nicely packaged. The slip-cover features a lenticular design that changes between the faces and the symbols when you look at it from different angles. The actual DVDs are housed in a plastic case that allows you to flip throught the seven discs (eight with the bonus DVD). Each of the DVDs are adorned with one of the Fringe Symbols. There is also a 16 page episode guide booklet, with photos and brief summaries.

The Blu-ray is packaged identically to the DVD, with the exception that there are only 5 discs instead of 7. (you don't get the smoke, hand, or apple)

Fringe Blu-Ray Reviews

      Email Post       8/31/2009 04:34:00 PM

Fringe Season 1 Blu-ray & DVD coversHigh Def Disc News has a very positive review of the "Fringe: The Complete First Season on Blu-ray", which will be released on September 8th, 2009.
VIDEO: translates very nice to Hi-Def ... The amount of detail present in close-ups is at times maybe worth considering 4.5 out of 5 video quality .. much better than the off-air broadcasts on FOX in what I believe is still 720p ... fans of the show that watched it when it aired on FOX are in for a treat here with a whole lot less compression.

AUDIO: the show actually pulls off some impressive (at times) surround sound, with Foley and other noises or background chatter, etc making good use of the rear channels as well as using the subwoofer to deliver bass when needed. The show is pretty intense at times thanks to it’s wonderful Score of original music done by Michael Giacchino (who also did the music for “LOST” among other things).

EXTRAS: Overall, wow, what can I say? There’s a great deal of very detailed, informative and lengthy supplemental material presented here that is sure to keep fans of the show like myself very busy... after you get done watching the season.
HDDN also has 1080p screenshots, and the list of special features:
  • Audio Commentaries - Episodes 1, 3, & 17
  • "The Massive Undertaking" - Behind The Scenes
  • "Dissected Files" - Deleted Scenes
  • "Deciphering the Scene" - Sidebars during the episode
  • "Evolution: The Genesis of Fringe"
  • "Behind the Real Science of Fringe"
  • "The Casting of Fringe"
  • "Robert Orci’s Production Diary"
  • "Fringe Visual Effects"
  • "Unusual Side Effects: Gag Reel"
  • "Gene the Cow"
  • "Fringe Pattern Analysis" (HD) is made up of dissected clips from episodes "The Ghost Network", "Power Hungry", "The Equation", "Safe", "The Transformation" & "Unleashed". This allows the viewer to take a closer look at these six select scenes from this season and then dissect each scene using notes, photos and diagrams.

Update: Here is a new review from Blu-ray.com
