Fringe To Canada, No Wrap Party For Crew?

      Email Post       4/14/2009 09:36:00 AM

No wrap party for you!It turns out Warner Bros wasn't bluffing when they announced that Fringe would be moving to Canada. While the mantra until now has been "It ain't over till it's over," unfortunately, it's over. The temporarily renewed NY tax credits were too little, too late for Fringe. Fringe is set to "wrap" (i.e. finish shooting) in the next week or so, and then they'll pack up the sets and head north.

The biggest loss will be the amazing Fringe crew, which can't or won't be allowed to make the move to Canada. From all accounts, the Fringe crew has been "one of a kind from top to bottom".

Now to literally add insult to injury, there is word that there will be no wrap party or thank you gifts for the soon-to-be unemployed crew members.

Normally when a show finishes shooting a season, it thanks everyone for their year of service by throwing a party and giving out nice gifts. However, some studio whistle blowers have come forward to reveal that there are no plans to make good on this time-honored tradition. One source said:
It's unheard of that these people don't get a wrap gift or wrap party after a year [of working on the show]... I feel for those guys and gals.
Not only will most of the crew not have a job on the show next season, they wont even be properly thanked for their hard work.

FringeTelevision would like to thank everyone whose work goes in to creating this incredible show. Please leave a comment here to show the crew how much the fans have appreciated all their hard work!

Fringe May Not Move To Canada After All

To quote NY Yankees legend Yogi Berra, "It ain't over till it's over."

There was a huge "Save NY Film & TV Tax Credits" rally in Albany, New York yesterday, and reports are coming in that it went "very well", and there is a good feeling that NY will end up with a tax credit of some sort.

A confidential source at Warner Bros. indicated that Fringe "is considering staying in New York if some kind of tax credit is passed."

It makes you wonder if the Canada move was just a bluff, because there will definitely be pressure on WB to keep Fringe in NY if the tax credits do in fact get renewed. I discussed this with my informant, who confided "if you wanted to scare New York into a tax credit, would you not take the biggest show shooting there and say you're moving it?" Bluff or not, hopefully this strategy works, because there is more at stake than just the few hundred Fringe jobs that would be lost.

Of course, this is all predicated on Fringe getting renewed for a second season, which almost everybody presumes at this point. However, I don't think it's a coincidence that Fox has not made any official announcements yet, instead waiting for the NY tax credit mess to sort out.

FOX's Fringe Set To Film In NYC?

The question has been asked. Where will Fringe be shot? Back to Toronto? LA? Boston? Well, the NY Post thinks they know.

Nobody's discussing new series locating here until this week's upfronts are over. Except me. Me, I'm discussing Warners' investigative job "Fringe." Originally set for cheapo Toronto, thanks to those NYC incentives, it'll shoot here. All over here. Four main roles - an FBI type, a female, a wacko scientist and his son. It's Emmy-winning J.J. Abrams' fourth TV show. He also did "Mission: Impossible III," so he does these big-time off-the-wall type things. This is sci-fi mixed with mythology mixed with cop stuff mixed with a mad scientist. We're talking Frankenstein meets Einstein meets Law & Disorder. -- Cindy Adams, New York Post
Perhaps it's just me, but while the report may in fact be accurate, something about it leaves me doubting.

Edit: Confirmation. Fringe is going to be be shot in NYC.
