Fringe Season 4 Premier Press Kit

Yesterday I received the Fringe press kit for the Fringe Season 4 premier. Inside the envelope was a letter from Peter Bishop, a "Save Peter" t-shirt, and a DVD with the first two episodes of Fringe Season 4.

I watched both episodes last night, and they are excellent! Episode #401"Neither Here Nor There" really sets up the new season, and episode #402 "One Night in October" is a great "mythalone" that gives a hint to how the rest of the season will play out.

The letter from Peter Bishop introduces the episodes, and gives some assurance that the question "Where Is Peter Bishop?" will be answered soon.

Fringe Press Kit For Friday Move

To commemorate Fringe's move to Friday nights, Fox sent out boxes with a very special surprise inside.

The box, marked "Property of Water Bishop", also has a label "Fringe is Moving - Fri Jan 21 -9/8c FOX".

Inside the box is a letter from Fox, explaining that the box is from Dr. Walter Bishop, who is entrusting us with one of his favorite snacks.

And that snack, of course, is Red Vines - a whole tub of them. Just in time for tonight's episode!

The tub also contains a message:

Please look after these for me. We can enjoy these together on Friday. - Walter

If you haven't decided on a snack for tonight's episode, why don't you join me in eating a handful (or two) of Red Vines!

Fringe Press Kit: August

Yesterday I received the FOX press kit for the Fringe episode August. It was a medium sized box with a poster of the Observer (it's one of the August promotional photos) on the front.

Inside the box was a bottle of Tabasco pepper sauce, a page of Observer writing, three historical photos, and the DVD for the episode August.

On the back of the Tabasco sauce was a custom Fringe label with the saying "Observers Are Here", which can also been seen in the opening title sequence.


The letter contains the same strange writing seen in the Observer's notebook from The Arrival.

I'm not sure if these are just random characters, or there is actually a decipherable code, but I do see some repeating characters, so it may not actually be the most complicated code Astrid has ever seen.

I'm sure there are some supreme code crackers out there (e.g. Julian Sanchez), so if anyone figures it out, let me know.


The most interesting part of the kit is the "historical" photos. You may recognize the first one from the August preview. I won't explain what is going on in the photos, but it should be fairly obvious if you look closely. Because these photos are a little spoilery, I have put the scans over in the Fringe Spoilers section.

Fringe Crossword Puzzle Solved

The Fringe crossword puzzle from The New York News paper has been solved.

There don't appear to be any hidden Easter eggs, but there are some Fringe-related clues. Some of the interesting answers: Clone, Cryo, Nano, Gene [the cow], Empath [Inner Child], Virus [Bound], Bell [William], Mutate [The Transformation], Brane & String [String Theory], Max [Planck - founder of Quantum Theory].

William Bell's New York Post Newspaper

The Season 1 finale of Fringe "There Is More Than One Of Everything" featured a look into the alternate reality where William Bell is living (hiding?). Bell's office, located in NYC's World Trade Center, suggests that events in this Earth Prime have played out a little differently than in our reality. The most powerful example in Bell's world: instead of the Twin Towers being destroyed on 9/11, it was the White House.

The newspaper shown on William Bell's desk hints at some other "roads not taken". Included in the Fringe Season 2 press kit was a 4-page replica of the newspaper from another world. Below are scans/photos of the entire paper. The "New York News" contains the following alternate realities. There are too many items to cover individually, but some of the more intersting ones are:

• Former Pres. Kenedy to Address UN - John F. Kennedy is still alive, set to talk to UN about "ex-deceased citizens"
  
• NTSB Withholds transcript from Flight 718 Black Box - Flight 718 was the plane that crashed in the Fringe episode The Transformation.
• Kelvin Genetics Moves HQ to Manhattan - Kelvin Genetics is the company that Dr. Walter Bishop worked for with William Bell.
• Weather Report - "No corrective action by NWS expected" - Weather can now be controlled by the government
• Cartoon - Solar, Wind, and Oil made obsolete by Zero-Point Energy - an alternate energy source developed by Massive Dynamic.
• Genetically Engineered pets
• FDA approves facial landscaping - a facial reconstruction technique developed by Intrepus. David Esterbrook, the R&D officer at Intrepus is also mentioned. Intrepus and Esterbrook can be seen in the Fringe episode The Cure.
• Star Trek is still the top movie at the box office :)
• Daily Horoscopes - all seem to apply to Olivia Dunham...
• Massive Dynamic Ad - There's no mention of the R.E.M. pod on the Massive Dynamic website...
  
• Crossword Puzzle - If anyone wants to solve this and send in the answers, maybe there are some clues hidden in it?
• Bar code - The bar code on the back page is 09172009 002 - as in 9/17/2009, Season 2
  

Fringe Season 2 Press Kit

Fox recently sent out Fringe Season 2 press kits to journalists et. al. The large black box which arrived a few days ago was wrapped in a mini-version of the Fringe Season 2 poster. Inside the box were the following items:

• An introduction letter "signed" by J.J. Abrams, Jeff Pinkner, Joel Wyman, and Akiva Goldsman
  
• A DVD of the Fringe Season 2 premiere episode - "A New Day In The Old Town"
  
• A crystal cube featuring the faces of Joshua Jackson, Anna Torv, and John Noble (?!?)
  
• A four-page replica of the "New York Post" newspaper seen in William Bell's office in the S1 finale
• A typed letter as seen in the Season 2 premiere episode (SPOILER ALERT!)
  

I can't really talk about the episode without getting all spoilery, but I will say WOW! Here are some photos/scans of some of the items in the box.



The newspaper has TONS of interesting content, which I'll post more about soon. The Season 2 "Spoiler" Letter is something that will be seen in the upcoming season premiere episode, so I have not posted it here, but you can see it over at our new site FringeSpoilers.com.

Fringe Press Kit: FBI Envelope

It's a little daunting to receive a large envelope from the FBI, until you take a closer look and realize that things are not what they seem, and this FBI is from Olivia Dunham's world in FRINGE (seen here with Phillip Broyles).

The first clue is the Frog glyph stamp, which is obviously not real and is postmarked FRINGE ON FOX 09 SEP 2008 TUE 9/10 C - the FRINGE premiere date. Another interesting detail is the braille at the bottom of the envelope, which translates to the Fibonacci numbers: 8 13 21 34 55

As previously reported, the envelope contains a letter, a digital voice recorder, "evidence" of The Pattern, and a DVD of the pilot episode. Here are some better photos of the contents:

Fringe Press Kit: The Phillip Broyles Files

Fox has begun sending out FRINGE Press Kits, which are made to look like an FBI case file, similar to one shown in the Pilot episode.

Included in the kit is a letter, a digital voice recorder, "evidence" of The Pattern, and a DVD of the pilot episode.

The letter, from J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci, describes the show and jokes about the leaked pilot:

We're so thrilled that you liked the pilot of FRINGE, which you more than likely downloaded illegally.

Also in the kit is a digital voice recorder with the voice of Phillip Broyles describing some events of the pattern.

John Thompson, a normal kid, went missing back in '98. He reappeared last month, half-way around the world - hadn't aged a day. 46 other children who went missing that same year turn up - same story.

A Sri Lankan fisherman reports a low-flying plane emitting a high-pitched frequency that blows out all their windows. An hour later, an 8.7 sub-surface earthquake in the same spot creates a tsunami that kills 83,000 people.

A patient in Lisbon wakesafter years in coma, writing a series numbers that turn out to be exact real-time coordinates of our carrier battle groups in the pacific - intel that's classified above top secret.

It remains inconclusive to me whether these events are linked by a conscious hand, or have occurred naturally though random events. Ongoing investigation in Argentina shares the rapid cell division that Dr. Bishop found in the most recent victim. The ability to regulate sustained grown through the body's own hormonal system will be further studied through our own research. Resurrecting dormant Bishop/Bell projects will need to be reconsidered in light of this new event. But I am not prepared to link these investigations. I am tired of repeating my colleagues mistakes. After years of separating the conventional progress of civilization from events that reveal a new form of advancement, I'm still left asking - is there a message, and if so... who is sending it?

The other bits of evidence include photos of: the missing boy John Thompson, the Sri Lanka tsunami damage, and the handwritten navy coordinates. These are the same "pattern" stories described in the Fringe Preview Comic.
