The Glyphs code in the Fringe episode The Day We Died spelled out NO MORE, as in there is NO MORE alternate universe.

OMG...

Looks like Peter joined the two universes!

Or as in there is NO MORE Peter?!

Peter makes the show, He cant be gone ?

Joshua Jackson seems too happy to be written out of the show. Maybe Peter is suspended in an empty landscape.

ahhhhhhhhhhh!

I was not expecting that!!!! Omg_!

I guess my brain now has a dick, because this episode blew my mind.

I loved it! It's so confusing and interesting and intense...can't wait for season 4!!!!!!!

amazing (: this definately isn't the last we'll see of peter. remember when we thought we lost charlie... turns out we still saw more of him later. :)

I was literally going "Hey guys. Peter disappeared. Why is no one concerned that Peter disappeared? No one is going to react? No one? Say something? Raise an eyebrow?..."

Annnnnnnnnnnnd then the observers. What the WHAT?!

Frenchie said...

@Anon10:29 I know. The Walter's were glaring at each other and the Olivia's were looking at each other like "Oh, you're here."... But no one... reacted.

Joshua Jackson HAS to come back in season 4. Some characters just can't be written out permanently; they are essential to the viewers. And, well, us shippers would be up in arms... LOL

well at least the whole "peter never existed" thing explains how olivia saw him in the red universe earlier this season... but seriously though, WHAT THE BLEEP?!?!?

I'm calling it right now, our Liv will start having visions of him again and she will be the first one to say, 'uh hey guys, this dude's in my head and he's pretty awesome, so...we need to figure out how to get him back ASAP!'

R said...

This episode was freaking AWESOME! I'm with everyone else, WTH?! It's like Peter was deleted! I knew Olivia wasn't going to suffer a permanent death but I had no idea that Peter was going to go.
What I want to know is if Peter never existed and no one remembers him what is Walter's excuse for crossing over and screwing up the two universes to begin with?
I cannot wait for season four for some answers!

Anonymous said...

I believe the explanation will be that Walter crossed over and saved Peter, but August never saved him from drowning after they got to our side.

Anonymous said...

that can't be the explanation because they said he never EXISTED. not that he died.

ptlsbntr said...

@R exactly, I expected either Olivia or Peter to "die" during the episode but not "permanently" (quotes because I don't believe it to be quite so permanent). Either the reasons for Walter crossing over or one or both Olivia's will start to remember Peter and he'll come back...hopefully.

Brilliant season finale. I was confused at first with water and hope being in the title sequence but I think those were explained pretty well in the episode. I expect season 4 will continue to blow our collective mind!

Also I'm considering No More to be in reference to Peter rather than the alt universe.

How can just two words be so chilling?

Actually it was September (Michael Cerveris) who saved Walter and Peter, August was another Observer who died in the episode "August" but I get what you mean, if the universes are combined isn't everyone who doesn't know what the fuck is going on going to freak the fuck out? Or is it just Liberty Island? What the fuck did The Observers do to Peter? Deleted him from existence? What aew they, i mean its been mentioned a few times they r not human, but seriously what r they up to? Kinda reminds me of the book "John dies at the end", theres these beings who if they touch someone they blink out of existence, and suddenly nobody remembers them and all traces of them disappear and are 'course corrected" and it's certainly not any accident, it's to keep people who know too much about the way things really r quiet... damn time travelers! I don't know I'm all over the place... this was an amazing season finale, probably one of the best hours of television in years. I honestly hope Olivia remembers Peter a la earlier in the season in the redverse but who knows, this show has made me extremely happy and can't wait til next fall! Its gonna be a long summer!

Never realized how much of an emotional rollercoaster one episode of Fringe could take me on. Best show on television, hands down. I'm completely hooked and I'm dying to see what happens in the next season!

Over the seasons we have watched Peter and Walter grow closer as we watched Peter and Olivia
grow closer. We hurt with them, we cried with them we felt their joy and pain as they grew we grew closer to them too. Now to have Peter not be remembered by anyone to have him disapear is more painful then having one world distroy another world.
Peter may have joined the two worlds but our world (the fans world) has been crushed when Peter disapaired not to be remembered.
I too believe that Olivia will see Peter again and bring him back just as Peter brought her back from the Red world to ours. Hope is the only thing I have to hold on to right now and I am holding on to it with both hands.

Just a thought...
Maybe this keeps happening (going back in time and changing it) and observers have been created and sent back also, (by the first people aka Walter etc) so they can observe and find a way to save both Peter and both universe...

Very well said. I feel that our Olivia and Peter are connected by a bond that transcends time, reality, universes, and science (even at its fringe-iest). They belong together. They bring out the best in one another. And they always bring each other back.

I find it interesting that in the second to last ep of this season, she told Walter: "I know you want to believe in me. But believing doesn't make it true." And then what did she do...fricken controlled the machine, just like he believed she could! Also, Peter told Olivia: "Reality is just a matter of perception."

Now, Fringe rarely drops a line without meaning behind it. So, I'm hoping that Olivia will take a leaf out of Walter's book and believe Peter back to her...and to us!!!

Suhara said...

How the hell could that have happened. I was just staring at the TV like what the hell...? Peter's Gone? Oliviaaa - REACT, REACT, REACT... But nobody reacted.. How can he never have existed? We can't have been made to love a character over 3 years and then be told "well, you know, he never actually existed!'.... WTH? Peter can't just be permanently deleted from their memories... It makes no sense! And what does that mean for all the Peter/Olivia shippers... They never actually had a relationship? Damn my brain hurts... This episode at least confirmed 2 of my theories going into this episode: 1. Fringe is the best, most creative show on television and 2. This is gonna be a very, very, very, very long summer...

Here's hoping Peter is not just CTRL+Z'd from the show!

After thinking about this some more I think there's too much of Peter left in both universes to have him actually be forgotten permanently. I mean in our universe there's Walter's reason for crossing over and Olivia's connection to him (in all that entails). In the alt-universe Walternate's reason's for attacking our universe and Bolivia's child (unless they "deleted" the kid from existence too which seems too unlikely and complicated).

Anonymous said...

Did future Walter break anyone else's heart?

Anonymous said...

Just a thought... If Peter never existed, does that mean there is no baby Henry?? and why is there conflict between the universes?... Does that mean that ALL this time Walter has been blaming himself for the break down of both worlds when in reality he (kidnapping Peter) wasn't the cause.
Damn it!! Really wish I had a bloody time machine to jump a few months ahead.

Derek Evans said...

Thy have teased at the introduction of a 3rd universe. I don't think it means NO MORE universes...I think it means no more Peter

Suhara said...

Also I was wondering, if the alternate universe was destroyed 15 years in the future, then does that mean that Fauxlivia and Henry would have been dead too? Of course this gets complicated now that Peter "never existed"! :(

So, First I wanna say I love Fringe but fukin quite yankin my chain and give me a real season finale. I thought it was at least gunna rap up the idea of two universes, not complicate it in a way my mind cant even comprehend. Give me some closure, not a reason to be pissed all summer.I gotta hunch that this has more to do with the machine. Peter starts controlling universes through it then he magically doesnt exist? I think that maybe it was the way that he used it that caused him to be "deleted".

Hey "Anonymous"... they were renewed for a 4th season. You can't wrap everything up and then just make crap up as you go. The story has to continue.

Did you feel the same after the first 2 finales? If so, why are you still here?

Anonymous said...

anonymous to previous anonymous. If you want TV that is wrapped up in a nice little bow, I recommend Friends. this show is called Fringe. Its about science and the inexplicable. we come back to have our minds challenged with storylines that vaguely resemble science. We come back so we can attempt to work out paradoxes and riddles in our heads until the producers blow us away with even crazier s***. I for one am glad we had this last episode. They could have easily ended the season with "the last sam weiss" and all we would have known is Peter 15 years into the future in a warzone. Instead we got a treasure trove of info about the machine, what it does, who the first people are, etc, and we have a direction for the next season. bravo fringe producers and writers. bravo.

Here's the breakdown. We know the observers interfered, which lead to alter-Peter's continued sickness, and Walter's breach to the other universe. So while they are not infallible (appears September made a mistake) they do attempt to correct their errors. This mistake that they made seemed pretty grave. The creation of Walternate's cure was "observance" worthy, so it was apparently a big deal. For them to go to great lengths to correct the mistake also shows it was a big deal. Apparently, there was an ideal timeline in which Alter-Peter lives on to do something the observers wanted to see happen. They are now attempting (we assume) to bring the universes back to their original states.

Apparently, if he never existed, the two sides would have ended up on liberty island in a universe bridge ANYWAYS via some OTHER means, with the red side shattered and the blue side responsible.

The apparent paradox comes when the oberver says both that he never existed, AND that he served his purpose. Can something that never existed have served any purpose? Was his purpose to delete himself from existence? Is that the solution that saves both universes?

My Theory: I believe that timelines without peter's existence lead to the shattered red universe, degrading blue, and a universe bridge. Timelines including alter-peter allow for a final state with two stable universes. By removing himself from existence now, Peter has created a platform via which the two universes can cooperate. However, after doing the math, they will see a missing part of the equation (Peter) which is required for a better outcome/solution. They will somehow reverse engineer Peter, and an elaborate solution (involving books and first peoples, and manuscripts) to save both universes.

It could also be an anagram for Monroe, or it could refer to "no more Peter". Don't you think?

Quantum physics has what is called "Model Dependent Realism" According to the principles of quantum physics, which is an accreted description of nature, a particle has neither a definite position nor a definite velocity unless and until those quantities are measured by an observer. It is therefore not correct to say that a measurement gives a certain result because the quantity being measured had that value at the time of measurement. In fact, in some cases individual objects do not even have an independent existence but rather exist only as part of the ensemble of many.
How do we know if a table still exists if I go out of the room and not see it? When I reenter the room the table stays put and agrees with the observation.
The observer here not being the observers at in Fringe call them, but once Olivia remembers Peter or observes him he will be real again. Much like the table when you return it is still there.
It is like Walter said when he was riding up in the lift at the Massive Dynamics it is hard to believe this building is so big when you are on the 14 floor but if you could be outside at this floor you could see the whole building. Much like time itself we only see one view but if we could get far enough out we could see the whole of time.
I believe that the Peter we saw was from a third universe and that he only became real because Walter, Olivia saw him in this universe. So he became real here.
