Fringe Exec Producer Not Worried About Move To Friday

      Email Post       12/02/2010 02:32:00 PM

Fringe executive producers Jeff Pinkner spoke with Fancast about the move to Friday nights (in January), and he seems very optimistic:
“What is ironic is that for the last year, all the message boards have been saying ‘Please move the show off of Thursday nights,’ so it is sort of one of those ‘Be careful what you wish for things,’” executive producer Jeff Pinkner says of the move, which starts in January.

“From the inside, you know when you are losing support from your network and studio partners, Pinkner says. “For us it has been just the opposite.”
“Our show has developed a devoted, rabid fan base. Our critical praise has never been higher. And our fan support has never been more passionate. If we can translate that to Friday nights, which has much lower expectations, we will be around for a good long time.”

Matt Roush of TV Guide also had this to say:
"It's worth noting that [Fringe] is a fairly well-established show whose creative vitals are still strong. Fox executives note that its DVR playback numbers are robust, which counts for something. And many in the media like it — Fringe was just spotlighted on the cover of TV Guide's Sci-Fi Preview — and we aren't likely to let it stay unnoticed in its new period. Plus, expectations will be so low that if Fringe holds on to a fair percentage of its loyal Thursday audience, it will be seen as a win."
So, while it seems that Fringe's move to Friday may not be the end of the world, it is important to keep showing your enthusiastic support. Recording Fringe on your Tivo/DVR, watching it online (at Fringe Episodes, Fox.com, or Hulu), and buying episodes on Amazon or iTunes helps a little, but the most important thing you can do is to WATCH FRINGE LIVE ON FRIDAY NIGHTS! Nothing else even comes close to showing your support by keeping those Neilson ratings up, and that can only happen if you watch it live on FOX.

The most important thing is "WATCH FRINGE LIVE" on Fox, because Recording Fringe on Tivo/DVR, watching it online, and buying episodes on Amazon or iTunes helps a little. Fringe is best show on TV and we can't let it DIE...

W FRINGE...:D

The second most important thing is to tell your friends and family to watch. Keeping the numbers up is good, but going up is better. Supposedly, tonight's or next week's episode is a good place to start for new viewers.

the problem is, us college students, who have time to watch it on Thursday, after a long week of schoolwork, will not be able to, as all the college parties are on Friday and Saturday night. Download from torrent...

How are the Neilson's going to measure my viewing habits when I'm not even part of their focus group? I don't have the Neilson meter attached to my TV. They have no way of monitoring when I, and millions of others, are glued to the screen for Fringe on Thursdays. The system is completely bogus.

re: after a long week of schoolwork, will

College? Party? Friday night? - get creative! Have a Fringe watch party. As for us middle-aged slogs that have a ton of mid-week commitments - Friday night is better for us. That is when we get to kick-back, unwind from the week, chug a brewski and watch the shows that we like (missed/Tivo'd).

PS. No decent college party starts before 11PM anyway, so you should be safe.

Vincent,
Downloading from torrents is the worst thing you can do to keep Fringe on the air. If you are in the US, there are plenty of places to watch it for FREE, like Fringe Episodes, Fox.com, or Hulu.

Anon,
DVR viewings are also counted, but only if they are watched in the first 24 hours. So there are other ways of tracking besides Neilson meters.

Easy solution for college kids...just turn on your TV before you leave (onto Fox, of course), set a timer, and let that puppy play Fringe. Then when Fringe is over, the timer will shut off your TV. Record it or watch it on Hulu the next day. Let's keep ratings up.
