So for this edition of Merchandise Monday I'm looking at the Fringe Glyphs.
Since they first appeared there was a fascination with them and work soon began on decoding their meaning.
Of course once they had been decoded they become even more of an enigma as they seemingly give clues to either the overall Fringe story or simply a hint at the next episode.
The beauty is of course that you don't need to understand the code to watch, they are just part of the show and I couldn't imagine an episode without them.
I have always wanted to create my own simple versions of the glyphs as the on screen versions are beautiful, but don't translate well to my preferred limited color way of working.
The final result was this poster of the glyphs, but my first attempt, about a year earlier, was even simpler and just involved the letters for Fringe in silhouette.
Once you start looking at them there is a huge amount of detail in them that needs to be broken down before you can start to recreate them.
Of course if you are not concerned about limited colour then you are free to do pretty much what you want wth the originals.
Last year Warner finally set up an official Fringe store where you can find lots of nice items, a lot of which are glyph based.
Items include posters, t-shirts, mugs, mouse pads, and iPhone cases.
This is the offering in the official Fox shop, only a couple of glyphs are offered on t-shirts and from the preview it seems odd as there appear to be two dots on the apple t-shirt and no dots on the butterfly.
If anyone has this shirt from Fox let us know what they look like in real life, or better still send a picture with you wearing the shirt.
Most other merchandise for Fringe, like my poster above, can be found on CafePress.
This is a nice apple shirt that comes in different styles. (click on the image for a link to the site)
Cafepress have an official licence deal with Fox so any design you create, subject to th CP terms and conditions, can be legitimately sold on anything CP have to offer.
There are iPhone cases with different glyphs on, and an assortment of mugs, not just the one above.
There are other websites out there that sell Fringe merchandise but to my knowledge thy are not strictly legitimate as only WB, Fox and CafePress have the licences to sell.
That's all for now, so let us know in the comments if there is anything else you would like to see in this feature.
I'll just leave you with this message -

Thanks for posting this Zort.
I enjoy your Fringe work and I hope you keep adding to it. :)
Thanks very much, I'll keep trying to.
...Fox is selling seasons for 60 bucks a pop?! Are they mad? How much LSD did Walter give them!
