Happy Fringe Season Five Premiere Friday!
THE FRINGE TEAM EMBARKS ON ITS MOST IMPORTANT MISSIONDuring tonight's season premiere episode, help promote Fringe by tweeting about the episode using this week's hashmark #TheyAreHere (Wait until 8pm, and don't use any other #hashtags! - plus please add the word Fringe (without a #) into your tweet.)
The fifth and final season picks up from the ominous events of last season’s “Letters of Transit” episode, in which the year is 2036 and the overpowering Observers rule. The Fringe team – preserved in amber for 20 years - is now a rebel resistance team fighting for freedom. Peter, reunited with his now adult daughter, Etta, sets out to find out what happened to his wife and Etta’s mom – Olivia – as they start their mission to save the world from the Observers.

It's official. I will never doubt again!
Amazing, Peter and Etta get a 3 second reunion while Etta and Olivia get an emotionally charged one. This is EXACTLY what I am talking about. These writers WILL NOT USE JOSH TO HIS FULL POTENTIAL!
Dandelions. Music. Amber Gypsies. Family. Wow! An easy Five. Buckle up folks. Gonna be a wild ride!
The Olivia-Etta reunion was heartbreaking.
@ panda - yes it was, like Peter when he recognized Etta at the end of "Letters Of Transit, another great close up face shot to add to our memories, along with "I'm not your son!" and that phone call he got at the end of "The Abducted".
It will be interesting to see how Etta's addition to this strangest of family dynamics plays into the mix, aside from the oddity of a daughter being almost the same age as the parents (it's not that any other show would do this, no other show COULD do this). Much of the dynamic (and it's issues) made it to 2036 as well. Walter and Olivia still have their doubts. She regrets she failed to save the world. Walter still hates himself for his failing powers, his brain scrambled eggs again, perhaps even worse than St. Claire's. Peter and "Afro" are still the "handlers", Astrid for Walter, and Peter for both, though I feel he's more centered on Olivia now as a result of their more mature relationship.
Etta is very much a child of the world she grew up in, and her "hardness" may be a source of conflict in the future. Who will be her "handler"?
I hope Etta's thirst for vengeance in the 502 preview is not over the death of Simon. I wanna see more Ian Cusick!
Walter's brain, possibly the most fascinating object in all of human history, may presently be scrambled again, but remember that the pieces Bell removed are back in the mix, so who knows what will come out this time around.
Fringe is back!
Anybody know what the song was that Walter played when he found "TripMix 06"? Sounds 80's. Wanna say Annie Lennox but I'm not sure.
@milostanfield
I'd like to see Ian again. The song you are looking for is "Only You" by Yazoo.
Powerful scenes between Olivia and Peter,Olivia and Etta and the torture scene.They brought tears to my eyes.
Very powerful and heartbreaking scenes happened in the premiere. I was emotional the whole episode but it still managed to be an intense one. Big props to the whole cast!
I know, this is just the premiere, but, here are my thoughts, questions, and hopes for this final season since the time jump is massive:
1. I wanna know more about what happened to Olivia and Peter. I hope they will give us more back story. What the hell happened with "I don't wanna lose you ever again." last season finale.
2. Peter is really like Walter. Will do anything to get his child back.
3. Cortexiphan has been a big part of the entire series. I wanna know if this will also play out in this season and how.
4. And lastly, I'm so excited on how they will tie-up the stories!
Based on the premiere, it just says that we are really on a wild ride for this final season and I'm so into it!
@ panda: Thanks! And for those of us who love to overanalyze, here are the lyrics:
Looking from a window above
It's like a story of love, can you hear me?
Came back only yesterday
I'm moving farther away, want you near me
All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew, only you
Sometimes when I think of her name
When it's only a game and I need you
Listen to the words that you say
It's getting harder to stay when I see you
All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew, only you
All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew, only you
This is going to take a long time
And I wonder what's mine, can't take no more
Wonder if you'll understand
It's just the touch of your hand behind a closed door
All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew, only you
As far as Etta's hardness being due to Simon's death, he's not dead- he's still in amber. The guard who was being friendly with her told her that Foster had been found in amber and had been a double agent. That's Simon. I'm also hoping for some more Ian Cusick as well and that seems to allow for the possibility.
@anonymous-
do you think maybe the baldies mindwiped him?
@milostanfield
I certainly hope not. If we're going to get to see Ian Cusick, it would be awful to see him totally blank.
Do we know for sure that they are able to extricate people from amber?
If they know that Simon was a double agent and the man who was torturing Walter saw Etta in Walter's mind, then it won't take very long for them to be after her.
So far this season reminds me of many really good WWII movies with the resistance fighting the Germans.
I want another season, pleeeeaassseeeeeee!!!!!!!! Is to early to end, think on a 6,7,8, etc seasons!!!!!!
