J. J. Abrams has admitted that he is "horrified" by the news that his show Fringe is being moved to Friday nights.

The drama's network Fox announced in November that the series will be pushed back to make way for American Idol.

"Oh, I'm horrified beyond belief," Abrams told Collider. "But as a fan of the genre and the show, I'm hoping that fans will tune in."

He continued: "I certainly can promise that it will be worth their while. The episodes that are coming up are spectacular. I guess you can just be hopeful and say that if the work is good enough, it will find the audience. I think they're doing better work now, even in the second half of season three, than they've ever done in the series. I'm just crossing my fingers that fans of the show show up."

Abrams admitted that he doesn't see an upside to the move because "the audience on Friday nights is harder to find", but insisted that he is still on good terms with Fox.

"Certainly, I would be lying to you if I said I'm thrilled about the move," he said. "But what I am thrilled about is that the network has been incredibly supportive and, despite its move to Friday, they've been nothing but encouraging of the show. It's still on the air in its third season and it's not easy to do that. It's not easy to get to season three of anything. They've allowed the show to become truly great, I think. The question is, will audiences find a great show on Friday nights? I pray that they do."

I have been watching Fringe since the beginning and am also horrified at the move to Friday nights. I am definitely NOT a fan of American Idol or any similar show. I can only say that I am glad I saw the schedule before Jan 21st and will try to adjust to Friday nights. It is amazing how many dimwits there must be in North America to have such a large TV audience affect good shows like Fringe re-scheduling. A sorry comment on viewer intelligence.

I agree with Suzzane 100%. Hopefully all of us true fans will stick with the show no matter what night it's on!

I would like to see a series of Fringe Movies in Theaters.

I am definately sticking. I have been waiting to see the next episode. I wish this would not happen. I mean, from my perspective I am just a weekly fringe loving fan who was so into the story.

Next thing I know without warning, like being plowed into by a mack truck at an intersection, all the sudden no fringe for a few weeks. Its as if it had an accident and went into the hospital over Christmas break and I want to know that its going to come through and be okay.

Is it on life support?
Please don't pull the plug...
Give it some super stuff and make it heal quick.

Well the only people to blame here are Foz themselves. I mean the pull the show at the slight whiff of any other shit they can throw on such as sports.

I remember they took Fringe of the air last season for around 4 or 5 months...then abruptly put it back on, then wondered where all the show's fans where? Fox is run by dimwits of the highest order, infact id go to say there isn't 1 single person at Fox with an IQ above 50.

I am sure there are other networks out there, that would snap this show up if fox can't be bothered with it (clearly they can't be, by shoving it on death night friday's).

Season 4? I think the tards at the fox will option to cancel the show before it finishes it's run. If they just stopped taking shows off the air for crap like sports or just because they want too, they'd get a bigger audience for what they want for the show in the first place!

Personally, it's not the shift in the schedule I'm worried about killing the show. If this violet sedan chair album turns out to be a hoax, used just to measure Internet buzz surrounding the show, real fans like myself might just lose trust. Mixed with the move, gearing the show to teens, the stupid Bolivia pregnancy soap opera twist...the ones who have supported the show til now might just give up. I hope I'm wrong.

I love fringe, and have never once watched it on Fox - as most due, I watch on hulu, so the move doesn't bother me a bit...except that now I will have to wait for the weekend to watch it.

All I can say is thank God for DVRs. Most people are recording their shows and at least the DVRs will be aware of the switch, informing viewers and taking them with them. After AI's number dwindled, I hope Fox will have the good sense to move Fringe back to its regular day and time.
