In the second part of the two-part season finale, sacrifices will be made and both universes may never be the same again after Walter and Olivia visit the "other side".

Discuss the episode here in the comments.

I called it. Knew that Olivia was switched.

Will said...

Yup, saw it coming when Walternate and Broyles were talking. Sneeky Alter-livia.

So what's the extra scene online they were talking about in the commercial? Or did I mishear?

Jen said...

Well... I don't know how I feel right now. I mean yeah it was an exciting episode (mostly) and I can get why it would be fun for those who like this kind of plot line ... but I just can't deal with another "evil twin takes the place of a character" plot line. Bad enough when it was Charlie being killed by the clone but now this?

I also don't understand how AUOlivia was able to help them cross back over - Was she subjected to the same experiments as Olivia? Does she know about them? Did I miss something there?

I don't know... I might watch Season 3, I might not... can't decide right now.

Jen said...

oh just saw the comment above mine - I think I found that scene they were talking about being on the web site. If it's the one I found it's pretty much just an ad for the car with some unimportant talk between AUWalter and Peter...

Sara said...

HYEEEE. Everything I wanted to say was pretty much said in my comments on the last episode. I knew this was coming, and I'm pretty excited. This is what I wanted.

MORE KIRK ACEVEDO SCENES, HEEEYEEAAAAAAAAH.

Those subtle scenes were AMAZING. I mean, I really love the actors right now. That small smile Anna Torv gave when she was talking to Charlie again, that scene in the car when Charlie talked of how obsolete he felt. It just reminds me of that talk he gave Olivia a long time back in season 1 right after John died. That small scene in the lab with Astrid and Peter (CALLED IT. Totally called Astrid's admiration for Petey), Bell's final scenes... Then there's John Noble. <3

I love shows with good actors who use the smallest scenes to their advantage.

The prospect of how big this is going to be next season... yep. I'm back to watching Fringe :D As long as they don't kill of Charlie again, I ain't leaving. Oy, knocking on wood.

Jen: Walter said that Olivia wasn't able to get them back. She wasn't enough without the help of the other guys (who were killed last episode). William Bell was the one who brought them back, Bolivia didn't have to do anything.

Steve said...

Fringe's ratings have been middling at best the last part of this season and I think tonight's ending will put the nail in Fringe's coffin.
I've been watching since the show premiered and really enjoyed the stories, but I think Transformers has killed Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman's writing abilities. Wondering how long we'll be asked to believe that Peter can't figure out that Olivia isn't the real Olivia - I'm expecting a whole lot of 'lame' in the next season, so I may be making a preemptive strike and 'retire' from Fringe just like Nimoy did.

D said...

I personally really enjoyed the episode. There were cliffhangers because this was only a season finale and not a series finale. FOX needs to move fringe to a better night next fall, possibly the Monday night slot after House that will be open since 24 is ending. I also think that William Bell is the one who built the universe destroying device. Maybe he designed it so that only Peter could use it because he knew Peter was in the other universe and Walternate would have a hard time retrieving Peter to use the device.

Jen said...

@Sara - Okay. I had thought Walter said she'd be able to "open the door a crack" but they still needed a) something to hold the door open (the device they found) and b) More power (Bell)?

O. McDonald said...

Enjoyed the episode. From the moment Olivia put on the hair dye and started impersonating her double, I could see what was coming from a mile away though.

Bob6stringer said...

My main point: This was a great episode because it kept me on the edge of my seat with action and character development -- the latter a deep dive in light of the doubles. I couldn't ask for more.

I'm left frustrated that Olivia's swapped. But not at the writers. The anxiety is internal to the show, I'm throughly wrapped-up in the series and this was a great thriller for any sci-fi fan. It's a thinking person's show.

It appears that the only truly negative comment came from Steve. The negative review seemed to hinge on the line: "Wondering how long we'll be asked to believe that Peter can't figure out that Olivia isn't the real Olivia."

@Steve: Good question, something we'll all be watching to see. Cut the writers some slack; the two characters have had very little interaction so far.

Joanna said...

I wouldn't call this the "final nail in Fringe's coffin" -- not by a long shot. If anything, it'll separate the true fans from the fly-by-nights. If all you want is an hour of light entertainment where the story resets every week, then Fringe wasn't for you in the first place.

Anonymous said...

OMG!!! THEY KISSED!!!!

Joanna said...

Plus (I just now thought of this), if you go by Steve's logic, no one would have stuck around for "Return of the Jedi", either. The story isn't anywhere near over. I dunno about you, but I'm staying put.

Anonymous said...

Ya I am somewhat new to fringe, I began watchin this season but I really enjoy the series and this last episode.

Rasser said...

Steve you gotta be kidding me, they had very good numbers considering they were in the same time slot as shows like Grey's Anatomy and CSI.

And considering Flashforward wont be returning to ABC, and Lost and 24 are now done.

Only thing that I did notice was that there was no double decker cars in the other universe, whats that about?

Joanna said...

"Only thing that I did notice was that there was no double decker cars in the other universe, whats that about?"

Two words: Effects budget.

A good episode...but not as good as last year's finale..which managed to avoid having a cliffhanger involving (essentially)
the shopworn "Evil Twin Impersonator." This is so unoriginal it's already been done before on THIS show...THIS season! Okay, so the last one was a shapeshifter...
essentially it's the same.

Sara said...

I think a couple of people are missing the point of the swap. It isn't that they were trying to pull the whole "impersonator" thing. I really do think this is a way for Olivia to explore the other universe. As I said many times before already, it's for something big, and if a small thing like the swap is going to take us there; then I'm on it.

@Jen: I thought so too, but once they got to the opera house Walter seems to believe that Olivia wasn't enough and Bell kept going on about how he'd be doing everything. And we didn't see them turn to Olivia for help either. I think that was my only qualms about the episode. I'll probably re-watch just to understand to conversation between Bell and Walter.

Red said...

Oh, my **** G-d! Cruel, I say; the folks responsible for one of the best investigative sci-fi series ever are decidedly cruel. You do not just have Olivia for all intents and purposes declare her love for Peter and then go and switch her for her alt. That's just not done.

I'm pissed off. Very.

The episode was great, although I do believe Bell gets off just a tad easy. And what the hell did he mean when he said he crossed over and stayed to prevent a war. What, they were gonna pull a Warren Ellis moment and wage war between parallel Earths? How, and to what end? Wouldn't it have made more sense for Walternate to contact Walter and explain what his incursion into their universe had wrought so together they could find a solution? And, if Walter's trip into the other side was in fact responsible for all the laws of nature going haywire, how the deuce did they have the means to "quarantine" Boston? Was it not said in this season's last episode the city was quarantined by Fringe Division? Therefore implying Fringe had been around since before the Boston incident, which would mean Walter's little raid was in fact not responsible for the end of their world and suggesting Walternate may have had more to do with it than he advertises? Hmmm, I believe there is food for thought there. And lastly, I do sincerely hope They don't make us wait until the end of next season to get our Olivia together with Peter. Please, please, pretty please with a cherry on top.

Jen said...

@Sara If they hadn't JUST done it with Charlie in the beginning of this very season AND if they hadn't had NO one realize that Charlie wasn't Charlie until the very last second I probably wouldn't be as annoyed... (especially since our Olivia is alive so there's a chance she can escape on her own).

What bugs me about doppelganger plots is how long it takes for other characters to realize that something is wrong... I spend every episode until they figure it out thinking, "why don't they realize it's not them!!!!" - and it interferes with my enjoyment of the episodes - but I know I have to remember just because I know it's not really them the characters don't have a reason to suspect right away.

I really do think this is a way for Olivia to explore the other universe.

Which Olivia? Ours is currently trapped in a tiny cell... (speaking of which I was rather annoyed that our tough Olivia was crying and begging AUWalter to let her out... didn't seem right for her character though maybe I was too annoyed at the time to accept it).

I probably won't decide if I'm going to watch Season 3 until the night it premiers... but I do know that if I do watch the first episode and it looks like no one is going to be suspicious of AUOlivia I likely won't last for that many more episodes.

Jen said...

Oh meant to ask - do we know for SURE when the switch actually happened? I was starting to suspect something was up when Olivia told Peter the reason she wanted Peter to come back was because Peter belonged with her.... The AUOlivia had asked earlier if Olivia and Peter were together so I wondered if it was AUOlivia acting out what she thought was the truth...

But I guess others are thinking the switch happened when Olivia threw the grenades and William was knocked out?

I really don't want to watch the episode again any time soon so if someone could explain I'd be grateful.

Sara said...

@Jen:

I think Olivia having that breakdown is mostly due to the fact that she's trapped in a small cell in the dark. Maybe it has something to do with her troubled childhood? I was in the assumption that she was abused as a child, but I couldn't remember much about it.

"Which Olivia? Ours is currently trapped in a tiny cell..."

The 'real' Olvia in the other universe :P I just mentioned that.

And really, I don't think Olvia would be trapped in that cell for the entirety of Season 3. She's definitely going to get out somehow, and I think she would be exploring it.

As for when the switch happened, I still think it was during the explosion. If it was before that, then that particular scene just prior to the explosion when Bolivia and the other-Broyles exchanged when they got the message from Walternate would be... weird. It wouldn't make sense if that was Olivia.

Jen said...

@Sara
I think Olivia having that breakdown is mostly due to the fact that she's trapped in a small cell in the dark.

Point taken. I know I was rather upset last night when I realized AUOlivia had returned with the others so I wasn't thinking about it rationally when it got to that last scene of Olivia locked in the room.

And good point about when the switch happened...

Regarding the doppelganger plot - if I look at it honestly and rationally - in a show about AUs with doubles of our characters it really wouldn't make much sense if they didn't pull character switches every now and then... right?

Sara said...

@Jen:

Yeah, shouldn't really be surprised about the switches. Third time would definitely kill it, though. The first one was significant in that in had a lasting effect on one character. This second one, like I said before, is just to get a view of the other universe. It may seem like a big thing, but Liv's gonna pull through :D I don't really think it'll affect the show too much, so don't worry about it :)

max said...

Good episode, but not excellent. Jen said "speaking of which I was rather annoyed that our tough Olivia was crying and begging AUWalter to let her out... didn't seem right for her character", I have to agree with this, that bit bothered me as it was rather pathetic. But, hang on, been imprisoned will afford our Olivia the opportunity to fully develope and master her mental powers. On a side note Anna is super hot as a red head. Looking forward to season 3.

Dennis said...

I don't think Alt-livia posing as Olivia will last very long - it's doesn't have to. She's not going to fool anyone, even if she fakes interest in Peter.

I think the focus will be on getting Olivia back, and Olivia trying to escape and find her way back. But I don't see any reason why she can't get back on her own using her superpowers.

As far as the switch goes, it has to be during the grenade attack. Alt-livia is not a shape shifter, and she doesn't have access to Olivia memories, so the "you belong with me" speech had too much information for anyone else to know:

I have thought of one hundred reasons... why you should come back. To -- to fight the shape-shifters, to take care of Walter, to -- to save the world. But in the end... you have to come back. Because you belong with me.

Anonymous said...

There are subtle things about the bonus scene that we are missing. Peter is with AU Waltera in the car. I think that Peter went back..... Remember, Peter left on his on accord the first time and I am sure that he is not convinced as of yet that AU Walter is evil. Folks, remember that is his REAL father and in that AU his REAL mother is alive. I think the bonus scene shows Peter going back to the AU. Another thing that it seems no one caught but which troubles me nonetheless, is when William Bell tells Peter that he has held up pretty well. (all this occurs within the context of William Bell telling Walter that his Atoms are unstable becuase of all the crossing back and forth. Could Peter be working both sides????

Jen said...

@Dennis - I'd like to believe that it won't last long and that she'll be discovered quickly but given the way the situation with Charlie went down I don't have a lot of faith...

Though it's possible I'm miss-judging how easily it should have been for the others to figure out that Charlie wasn't Charlie.

However, the last episode with fakeCharlie was the most bothersome because I thought they'd figure it out when they realized the nurse wasn't the shape-shifter - Charlie was the only other person in the room with her so it should have been obvious, but nope. Also when they were doing the face recognition thing I thought the outline looked EXACTLY like Charlie's face the second it went up... but no one noticed. No one noticed until the very last second when fakeCharlie stopped pretending in front of Olivia...

Yes I realize that in the end I'm going have to watch season 3 to see how it plays out...

Okay, reading the above comments I only have one question: Why is Alter-Olivia called "Bolivia?" Is it a play on the country, or does it mean Olivia- B (as in Olivia #2)? Definitely missed something there.

Dennis said...

I guess that FOX is calling her Bolivia in the official recaps, so I'm afraid we are stuck with it.

I thought Bolivia was a "shipper" name for Peter Bishop + Olivia.

Personally, I prefer Alt-livia (and so does Joshua Jackson)

Olivier said...

Hello !
I have been visiting this blog for a long while, but have never come around to posting here yet.
Thanks for all the work put in this site!

The following should be in the Easter Eggs section, but since there is no message regarding this episode yet, I decided to post this here.

When Altlivia discusses briefly with Peter in the apartment she has taken him to, you can see a few comics covers on the wall.
Those are Alternate Universe covers of famous DC Comics covers & stories, specially made for Fringe.

More about it and pictures:
- red Lantern and Red Arrow
- the other alternate covers and how they came to be.

It was a pretty good finale, but Olivia changed too much: even though she seemed interested in Peter before, there was nothing while he was gone to hint at her realization and account for her blurting this out to Peter; and then, I don't think not enough time has passed for her to be coming apart as she does at the end (she's an FBI agent and must have been trained to deal with crueler treatment-- not Jack Bauer-like, but still, I suppose real agents must be trained in how to deal with being held captive).

All the best,

Olivier
(Paris, France)

Anonymous said...

@Max yeah I didnt have a problem with the broken Olivia at the end. I think it'll give her a chance to develop her powers. They've been a bit lacking this season. I also didn't understand why Massive Dynamic/Fringe Division havent bothered to try training Olivia even though they did it with Nick and the two others. If she's WalterBell's greatest achievement why is she the only one who can't tap into her powers?

I digress. Sorry. Back to the ending. Yeah it makes sense that Olivia would have to be confined. That is the only way she might tap into her childhood-powers. Like when she was petrified as a little girl in that room and torched the place? Walter said she had to be in a high emotional state. What better place than in solitary confinement.

Also, @Olivier Yes I'm sure there is kind of base training of what to do when captured and how to handle it, but training and experiencing are two different things. Plus, the unknown is far more scary than the known. If she has received training, it's for normal circumstances military/government/war circumstances. I highly doubt they trained her on how to deal with a psychotic evil genius doctor. Imagine all the things they could do to her... all of which are probably far worse than anything contrived on her side.

Come on "Fringe". At the final stand-off Alt-Olivia was wearing a white shirt. Regular Olivia was wearing a red shirt. Then the after "the switch" alt-Olivia was wearing the red shirt. Seriously?

Will said...

Olivia is in distress because she is being subjected to sensory deprivation, which is a form of torture that causes hallucinations, extreme anxiety, and depression.

Alternate Fringe division was created to defend the earth from events that started in 1985, so of course they were there for the Boston event. Boston quarantine happened when Olivia accidental jumped last season in The Road Not Taken. This would in no wise implicate Walternate as a cause for any of the events, it was all Walter. Walternate's just pissed.

KJ Tan said...

Hmmm...i have another theory...what if AU-Olivia changes sides at some point? Esp after she discovers that:
1. not everyone in our universe is evil and will stop at nothing to get what they want
2. Walternate's plans are to actually destroy a whole universe
3. She gets emotionally attached to her sister (who is dead in her own universe) and her lovable niece that she never had

She could then "explore" our world while real Olivia explores the other universe. AU-Olivia could then possibly also give us alot of insight into her universe and how all the strange phenomenon over there came into being (worms, arachnids, quarantine etc etc). She might even help us get Olivia back!

Just a thought...

Anonymous said...

@ KJ Tan, Its possible that AUOLivia will help our Olivia, but its kinda unlikely.

I know another person realized this but the whole red shirt thing. Really? are you serious?

Also, I think they really should have Peter discover the AUOlivia, b/c then maybe they could actually show that he IS in fact smart! >:(

I guess I'll still watch the 3rd season. I'm a little obsessed! ;)

Will said...

I'm with KJ, it would be interesting if Olivianate became fond of our universe. She could help unite the two sides to work together to stop the destruction of both universes.

Sara said...

@KJ Tan:

THIS. This is what I'm getting a bit over-excited about. The chance to explore the AU world with Livvy, and the chance for Bolivia (Yeah, I'm getting tired of this name especially since it's being used to shorten Peter/Olivia) to explore the main world.

to be honest though, I'm most excited about Charlie scenes.

Anonymous said...

I say we go with Faux-livia, rolls right off the tongue. Alt-livia is just too halting. I'm also very excited that they've shut the door on "monster of the week" episodes for awhile. Even if they decided to bench Olivia and have a "monster of the week" episode with Faux-livia there would be a whole different dynamic to it.

Sara said...

Yep, Fauxlivia sounds so much easier :D

I kinda miss the monster-of-the-week episodes though D:

Trish said...

I don't see anywhere else to put this, but it likely should be in Easter Eggs (I don't see entries for these particular ones)...when Olivia wakes up, a (video?) is playing/ending, quietly playing "Science Fiction/Double Feature" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

We also noticed the Windows (98?) logo, and wondered how "different" it was from "ours"

Hadn't picked up on the glyphs (that they spelled anything), looking forward to figuring those out next season.

Trish said...

oh yeah, meant to say Alt-Olivia...

MasSoren.net - Her er du i gode hænder said...

I Thought the reason that thereal Olivia could cross to the other side was that she had been treated with cortexefan(SP?). But altlivia surely hasn't been treated, given that William Bell didn't exist in that universe, so how is she able to help them cross over?

I might be wrong, but that's a major plothole to me.

Dennis said...

Since Olivia has taken the Cortexiphan, she may be able to get back on her own, but she wouldn't be able to take anyone else with her. That's why they needed to combine the power of multiple Cortexiphan people in order to get there, so they could take Walter too.

But to get back, they had to go a different route. Remember, Walter crossed over the first time to steal Peter without anyone's help. Since the crack is already there from their trip to get there, they only needed the machine (i.e. the Door Stop) and William Bell's energy to re-open the door.

While Olivia may be able to get back on her own, Bolivia will be stuck in our universe since she never had Cortexiphan.

MasSoren.net - Her er du i gode hænder said...

ahh....I thought the doorstop AND Olivia was needed, not only the machine. Thanks for the clarification

Hi All - can't wait until Fall now!! Loving Fringe more each episode!!!Does anyone have theories on the following:

- Is Nina a good guy or bad guy?

Nina mentioned earlier to Peter "I once was very close to 'your father' (possibly Walternate?? - Peter's true father). Which side is Nina really on? Has she been assisting Walternate all these years in secret?? Also did you catch in the pilot episode the 'secret society' both Nina and Broyles belonged to with "ET" on a sign in the background? Nina kisses Broyles in an earlier episode - was there a love affair in their past??

-What is poor Alt Charlie infested with that they refer to as "spiders"?

-Will William Bell be back or did his atoms disintegrate sending them back home?

-What part does Sam Weiss play in all this? (He stated "I'm alot older and taller than I look"....) who is he really, and how did he meet Nina originally??

BTW - did you catch Waltnerate at St. Claire's in the earlier episode where Walter get's re-admitted saying "Welcome Back, Walter". I believe Walternate is actually behind all the missdoings and has been universe hopping possibly even before our Walter. I suspect he set up our Walter originally, causing the lab fire/ killing Carla the lab assistant to repay Walter for taking Peter.....

Sooo much to think about!!

Walter's Girl, Chris

DrFlanigan said...

To Joanna:

I hope Nina is evil, i love evil women.

Thats a very nice observation, perhaps Nina gains the trust of men for her own reasons.

The "spiders" altcharlie is infected with are worms, the same worms that our charlie was infected with and CURED by Walter in the big lizard ep. Unfortunately it seems Walternate was unable to create a cure, and instead created a suppressant drug.

I'm pretty sure William Bell is dead. At least the William we've come to know.

There is an anagram on the black board during Walter and Williams visit to his altlab. When unscrambled the board says "DONT TRUST SAM WEISS". This along with the glyph of the episode means Sammy boy is either evil in our world, or evil in their world. Perhaps he is working with Nina, or she is working for him, or vice versa.

Actually, it makes you wonder. Is it Walternet or Walter and their gangs who do not trust Sammy. I can't wait for the next season, it's going to be amazing.

Walternet was incapable of traveling universes. My theory is that Walternet isn't as brilliant as our Walter, or their world is missing resources.

Hope that answered some questions.

Will said...

Funny you should mention that last point about our Walter being smarter than Walternate. Walternate told peter in the finale that our universes had made scientific breakthroughs that his had not, and that's why he thought Peter could help. Of course he could be lying, and the reason he's not as scientifically brilliant is because he is distracted by politics. His universe is unraveling, after all. That can be a distraction.

RichieLee84 said...

This might have been put forward but has anyone considered the possibilty that our Olivia was not switched at all, as shown, but is playing along for info? ''Olivias'' reaction in the cell just didn't ring true. Just a theory.

Will said...

You mean did Olivia willingly get captured? I doubt it, as it seemed to be Walternate's plan when he called Olivia and Broyles near the end of the show.

And it's even more unlikely that they were never switched at all, seeing fauxlivia's reaction when she went into Olivia's apartment for the first time, also near the end of the episode.

I believe it to be Olivia's natural reaction to being captured and imprisoned by alternate versions of her friends and colleagues who are threatening to destroy her entire universe and everyone she loves. I'm not sure why that emotional reaction seems to "not ring true." Olivia is human, after all.

When the alternate Olivia told Bell when he woke up that he had to use the phosphorus grenades, how did she know about them?

It was my impression that Bell had not given them to the Alternate Fringe division just as he had not given them the 77 handgun.

Will said...

Our Olivia probably used one of the grenades on Fringe Division before being captured. There's a lot we didn't see while Bell was knocked out, I'm sure Olive didn't go down without a fight. Sneaky alternate people. I can't wait for season 3!

RichieLee84 said...

I think there's going to be somethin taking place in the black out, after the grenade, which the writers are going to surprise us with. Fauxlivia trying to take her place, but failing. Perhaps. But strangley, kinda hope not, as it would be good to explore the otherside more. As said, just a theory. Can't wait to find out though. First time i've felt the need to comment on anything Fring related, or anything come to think about it.

Will said...

I think the writers made it pretty clear here that the two Olivias were switched. Look at how Fauxlivia reacted to her apartment, using the key hidden over the door frame because Olivia said they used the same hiding spot. She also used the type writer by herself, not showing it to Walter and Peter like Olivia would most likely do if she WAS Olivia. And why else would Walternate put Olivia in solitary, don't you think they would be able to discern their Olivia from ours? It was Walternate's plan to switch the two after all.

Dennis said...

Plus, our Olivia doesn't have a tattoo on the back of her neck...

Bruno said...

Oh, North Americans... If Fringe is too much for you, please, go watch Gilmore Girls...

Will said...

Remember how in season 1 near the end with the pyrokinetic girls, one of them blew up and the other died in season 2 finale? In the alternate universe they both died together according to Olivia's brief jumps over there during the Boston quarantine. Wouldn't that mean that they were also given cortexophan? Walternate did write and publish ZFT over there, instead of Bell. So maybe fauxlivia does have powers too.

why would you need a card for national healthcare? if the healthcare is FREE for ALL then there would be no need to determine someones identity, they should be treated the same as everyone else. i can only see the identity cards as a futuristic way of controlling everyone and putting them in a big brother society where they are being tracked all the time through their cards.

I'm a brand new Fringe-o-phile and so far I'm loving the trip! I only discovered the show a few weeks ago and got caught up by getting the season 1 discs and season 2 downloads from Itunes. I'm a bit apprehensive about the Olivia switchout -- I can't believe Broyles won't figure it out in the first minute he tries to talk cases with Fauxlivia. I think the writers really stepped in it with this twist, and I can't see how they expect to carry this off believably. I look forward to seeing if they can make me believe that Fauxlivia gets away with it.

Anonymous said...

If this is answered in previous comments, sorry, didn't read them all!

Since Alt-livia is here, maybe she, and thus everyone else(alt-universe), will realize that this side isn't evil, and mean. I mean sure we're a bit behind technology wise but still we have hearts and souls and minds!

*I LOVE FRINGE*

Anonymous said...

I loved this episode. Love FRINGE always, too. The acting is superb- and though at times the science is a tad dubious (for example, Nagal Jolokia peppers grow, essentially, anywhere else other peppers can, so the device of finding August's address by tracking importation of this hottest hot pepper is a tad hokey). But this is a very minor flaw.
As to the idea of the Alternate Universe doubles of characters in our universe being "evil twins" -- I suspect it isn't as simple as that. Though differing in experience and choices made, the alternates are in many ways identical to there counterparts here. So Fauxlivia likely has at base some of Olivia's qualities of kindness and honor-- in other words, she may not be "all bad". The case of Walter/Walternate is more complicated: Walter underwent (if we can believe Bell, at his own request) a triple lobotomy. Though this left him in an often-confused state, it also, apparently, made him a more compassionate, loving, kinder man -- Walter, pre-lobotomy, is seen as a harder, less caring, and in some ways cruel, man. So despite the reduced clarity of mind, Walter may be in the end superior to Walternate for this reason.
Can't wait to see where things go...
