Fringe Episode 109: The Dreamscape
By Dennis Email Post 11/25/2008 07:57:00 PM Categories: Fringe, Season 1
A Massive Dynamic employee is so convinced he is being attacked by butterflies that he jumps out of a window to escape them, and the team is called in to investigate. Although Olivia's unexplained interaction with Agent Scott leads to breaks in the case, she is so desperate to rid her consciousness of him that she demands to go back in the tank. Meanwhile, the jig is up for Peter when a former friend and some current foes find out he's back in Boston.

fear t3h butterflies O_O
Hey Olivia is on the MD site.
the whole, thinking you can hurt yourself and your body doing it was totally MIND BLOWING
i went into a whole list of possibilities of how this good be bad AND good for everybody
You can call MD again! 1-877-867-7396
Where was "the Observer" in this episode? Could not find him.
it's like the matrix.
John Scott maybe working for more than one group. I think he is an FBI agent in name only. What is his connection with MD..is he the avenger? Is he pretending to work with the secret organization? Also how did Philip Broyles get the MD file so easily?
I was confused...Oliv works for MD
from now on?No longer a FBI?
I like Oliv~The screen of restaurant nearly made me cry...She love John so much, but this guy beytraled her(maybe not?) and keep she confusing and sadly.
Olivia is FBI so far. She has been asked twice by Nina Sharp to work at MD buy so far she hasn't caved.
I wonder about the Nina Sharp and Philip Broyles relationship. It seems too familiar.
Did anyone notice that when John went to stab that man, he said "if we get into another Astrid situation, we're screwed"?
I think he's saying "Ashley", but I'll check the Closed Captions tonight...
While Peter is in the cafe, behind them outside is a large truck. The camera pans such that you can read what's written on the truck through a clear slit in the window: 800-444-SALEM. Next ep clue maybe?
Was I the only person who thought this episode was the worst of the season?
Also, the Observer was at the very beginning as Mark Whoever stepped out of the elevator.
I liked it! But I really wanted the killer butterflies to be real and have razor-wings. :-(
BTW, is MD keeping Scott's brain alive? And so that's how Olivia was able to create a new interaction with him, and he could see her in the "dream", because his brain is not actually "dead" yet per se? Walter would not know that and would assume that he's dead and that she can't have new encounters with Scott, but he'd be wrong, if Scott's got "the brain that wouldn't die".
Tx. Sorry if this was obvious to everyone but me.
I am not convinced that it is The Observer you see when Mark gets off the elevator. I keep going back over the scene and it looks like a security guard with hair and possibly eyebrows. However, if it isn't him, I can't find him in the episode.
Capcom, we don't know if the e-mails are real or figments of her imagination. The first one can be explained as an expression of John Scott's memory, but the second one cannot.
So we don't know if the e-mails are real, which means the second one could just be an hallucination.
She has been doped up with LSD two times now and the second e-mail came after her experience in the tank.
Just to clarify my point, if there are actual e-mails from John Scott in Olivia's inbox, they would be phyical objects that she could show to others and that would be of interest to the investigation.
The fact that they don't seem to be "real" indicate to me that they are just the manifestation of her mind. They could be John's memories, but they don't have to be.
I am increasingly convinced that Olivia and Peter are brother and sister, perhaps fraternal twins.
If the emails were real, Charlie could have sent them. I'm sure he's messing with her on this. There's a reason she keeps to talking to Charlie about this rather than Peter. Charlie's a bit too Johnny-on-the-spot for my liking.
Like Rebecca, I was disappointed with this episode. Peter's past catching up with him could have had a real wow factor but instead it just turned out to be a whiney-ex with an abusive boyfriend.
i think john's been re-animated by MD.
and as far as the e-mails go:
even if they are physical, can't olivia just sign on as scott and send them to herself.
and i also really liked the director for this episode.
i think he did a really good job and the show really needed some fresh directing.
this episode was one of the best.
oops it's called realme.
My TV cut off just as she was about to read the second e-mail.
What did it say?
Thanks all for your thoughts on the emails. :-)
What about their new encounter in her subconcious in the restaurant? Was it because his brain is still being kept "alive" at MD?
That's what I think Capcom...his brain is still active and so are his thoughts. And what is MD doing with him?
Was that a JJ cameo in the car following the guy's cell phone location?
i think they're just bringing him back to life.
kinda like they want to do with locke in lost on the island.
isn't one of the themes from this show also re-animation?
it'd be pretty cool to have like an undead scott come out later.
el oh el, but seriously though.
I could not find the observer anywhere in the butterfly episode. I think the guy who looks like Dave Chappelle works for MD and that Peter is th son of Walter and the female director of MD. John' s brain is being kept alive ant he Dave Chapeele guy is sending the emails to Olivia to freak her out in some way so that she will come over to MD
Does anyone know what music is playing as Mark Young falls out of the Massive Dynamic building? I'm wondering if it was a piece of classical music, it sounds familiar or just the soundtrack? Thanks for your help!
