Much to Peter's dismay, Olivia encourages Walter to return to the mental institution, and Walter's determination to help ends up having chilling ramifications in an all-new episode of FRINGE.

do you mean the somke? it's not really new, but this is the first time that it's used in an actual episode.

I completely missed the observer in this ep. I'm usually good at findong him >_<

Yeah I didn't see him either, but my kid was running around screaming through part of it so I was busy observing him

He was in the background by the tree when Dunham was talking to Peter on the phone while canvassing with the police, just before she sees the red castle. There are 2 similar shots; he was in the first and gone in the second.

What did they do with the apple?

I'm pretty sure he grabbed the apple from inside the box through the side.

Did anyone else realize that the color sequence of three green and one red show up in the pilot in Olivia's dream (on the kayak). Also it appears in The Arrival in two spots one on the hat of the guy trying to ge the cylinder and the other in the bottom left hand side of the observers binoculars.

I am new to the Fringe and enjoyed the Equation episode but became more than a bit confused during the apple scene. First, why was the apple put into the box? The apple appeared to look the same going in as it did coming out. Second, why did the mad scientist with the gun grab the apple while the box was still chugging? And after 10 years (I believe it was 10 years) of kidnappings in an effort to "complete the song," I thought the serial kidnapper seemed a bit too casual and not the least bit weary of the whole thing when meeting up with her accomplice.

Welcome Sodbuster!

The man with the gun is Mitchell Loeb. He was the same man in the last episode (In Which We Meet Mr. Jones) with the parasite wrapped around his heart. He's an FBI agent, but it appears he is working for the bad guys... ZFT maybe...

The box that the apple was put into was a safe, and it looks like the frequency created by the equation caused the walls of the safe to temporarily "melt" so that he could reach right through the safe wall and grab the apple unharmed. It's basically like being able to walk through walls, which might be very valuable to bad guys.

The serial kidnapper was Joanne Ostler, and it appears she was working with/for Mitchell Loeb, so she probably had no reason to think he would betray her.

@Anonymous
Yes, I'm pretty sure that most people here have noticed the GGGR references, if they have been on this site long anyway.

You do realize there is an entire screencaps section? And if there's something missing there, you can request it here.

I have a few dozen more screenshots to post... but I'm a little short handed at the moment, so sorry for the delay this week.

BTW, it was episode eight ;)

I believe that pulling the apple out through the safe wall was a prelude to episode 10...i will say no more on that subject, check it out in the spoiler section.

Joanne was just a pawn, they solved the equation, they didn't need her anymore, so they killed her. People become liabilities when they have valuable information on bad guys and no job

I love the screencaps here, I think that you all are doing a great job. It helps me with my Fringe blog, because Fox doesn't seem to have much interest in posting many caps from the eps, unless I just can't find them. So, thank! :-D

Just a quick question. Does anyone know what or why walter sees himself twice during the episode.
