Fringe Observiews 5.08 The Human Kind

      Email Post       12/13/2012 10:45:00 PM

Welcome to the Observiews for Season 5 of Fringe. I call them Observiews because they are more visual observations than deep thinking reviews, if that makes sense.
Screen caps from this episode are taken from fringefiles.com. Dialog is from fringepedia.net.

All observations are mine and therefore could be totally off the wall and/or wrong. I have not read or looked at any recaps or reviews. I could also have missed a few things, oh well…

4.14 The End Of All Things
DAVID JONES: "Your love for this man must be something quite profound."

It is. And just how profound? We will find out!

Glyphs spelled: PLEAD
As in Walter pleading with Peter to let him remove the tech. As in Simone pleading with Olivia to believe in faith and hope. As in Olivia pleading with Peter to hold on to Etta and love.

This was a difficult episode as far as the visual observations go but it had great dialog, so bear with me.

This episode could have had two other titles:
The Bullet That Keeps on Saving - or
"And now these three remain: Faith, Hope and Love. But the greatest of these is Love." (1 Corinthians 1:13)

Etta's posters are being scraped off.
Olivia is waiting for Anil and looks on as it happens.
I wonder what she's thinking?

Anil was able to get another one of the tech Peter implanted himself with. Olivia wants to give it to Walter to figure out what it will do to Peter or how to neutralize it.
He also brought more ammunition because Astrid said they are running low.

Meanwhile Peter is plotting out Windmark's steps, anticipating him showing up in Etta's apartment.
OBSERVER: "He is foretelling your movements. He has gained the ability to run futures."
Peter left in time of course, looking up at Windmark.
This is going to sound crazy - wait this is Fringe, of course it's crazy - but for some reason I thought of 2.21 Over There Part 1 when Olivia looked up at Fauxlivia's apartment.

Back at the lab tape #8 is recovered. We're still missing #1 and #4. The next location is 46 miles northwest of Boston. An industrial size electromagnet needs to be found.
Again, northwest has been referenced many times. You can read some of them here

Olivia returns to the lab and from the look on her face she has bad news.
She shares with Walter that Peter had implanted this tech in himself, that he is reading time, thinking ahead, knows what will be said just like the Observers do.
I'm glad Olivia shared this with Walter and Astrid. By herself I don't think she could do anything about it. Hoping Walter will be able to help.

WALTER: "I'll start running diagnostics right away. Of course, it's meant to be integrated with organic material. I need to see how it interacts with an actual brain."
Uh, oh. I loved Astrid looking all worried.
ASTRID: "And whose did you have in mind?"
Fortunately Walter kept the brain from the porcupine man. 5.04 The Bullet That Saved The World

Then Peter calls to warn them about Etta's apartment being compromised and to not go there. Walter is trying to plead with Peter to come back to the lab to get checked out.
WALTER: "I don't believe you are in control. Son, you promised me. You said you would be there for me. Do you remember -- to keep me from slipping? I need you. I'm begging you."
Yeah Peter, what happened to: "Listen to me. I'm not gonna let that happen. We need you. You are our only hope to defeat the Observers. And I’m gonna be here with you, every step of the way."
(5.06 Through The Looking Glass And What Walter Found There)
As he hangs up Peter sees Walter on reward wire on a building.
And this might be the clue if you've seen the promo for next week.
All Walter was able to get out of Peter is that he is in New York.

Back at the lab.
OLIVIA: "I - I can't stay here. I’m crawling out of my skin."
Olivia admitting her feelings. Good girl. I'll get back to the phrase later.
WALTER: "What are you doing?"
OLIVIA: "Well, you and Astrid need to work on the tech, so I’m gonna try and find this magnet."
WALTER: "Alone?"
OLIVIA: "We have no other option."
ASTRID: "What about Peter?"
OLIVIA: "All I can do is just keep our promise to 'Etta and -- and stick with the plan."
What else can you do? I was thinking back to 2.01 A New Day In The Old Town
AMY JESSUP: "Do you remember the girl from the video? That she said he was a soldier? My father was a soldier. They do one thing, life or death."
PETER: "They stay on mission."
And whether you like it or not, Olivia. You are a soldier and you have a mission.

So Peter is still or again redirecting Windmark's moves by planning another interference (left) "according to Milo in 3.03 The Plateau (right)".

Olivia found the scrapyard. She asks to barter for a magnet. That statement is met with astonishment. Olivia is asked to wait. As Carlos walks off to talk to Simone, Olivia notices the cameras. Yep, be on your guard.
SIMONE: "It's her. Send them. Send them now."
So Simone must have know what Olivia looked like. I wonder how?

SIMONE: "My name is Simone."
A few things here. I got the impression that by the way Simone introduced herself, she expected Olivia to know who she was. Then I thought... Simone is the female version of...
"Hi, my name is Simon and I'm a cortexi-kid, just like you." (3.12 Concentrate And Ask Again)
I'll come back to that

Simone tells Olivia that they have been expecting her.
SIMONE: "I've been waiting many years for someone to come for that magnet."
1.01 Pilot
WALTER: "I knew someone would have come. Eventually."
SIMONE: "Come. I'll show you. This is your truck. It's been your truck for twenty-one years... to transport it. A man came here soon after The Invaders arrived. The man spoke with my mother. They talked for a long time. He said he had a way to save the world... but he needed a giant magnet to do it."
Do we know Simone's mother? How does Walter know Simone's mother?

OLIVIA: "Was his name Walter? Walter Bishop?"
SIMONE: "I don't remember his name. He was older... grayish hair."
Was it really Walter or could it have been William Bell?

SIMONE: "My mother assured him that she would keep a magnet packed up and ready for when he came back for it. Before she died, she made me promise to keep the candle burning. And I did. It wasn't always easy. At times, we were destitute. There were people who wanted to sell the magnet and the truck. They lost hope. But my mother never did. And neither did I."

HOPE has been an underlying theme in Fringe from the very beginning. And... the first person to say the word "hope" was Olivia in 1.01 Pilot
CHARLIE: "What about Bishop?"
OLIVIA: "Left or right? Insane, and irritating. And also my only hope."
In 3.08 Entrada she was pleading with Alt-Broyles
OLIVIA: "If you don't trust me... then there is no hope."
Later in that same episode the roles are reversed and then it is Alt-Broyles who is pleading with Olivia.
COLONEL BROYLES: "Look, I've seen war. But if what you're saying is true, In the end, I have to believe in hope."
SIMONE: "And here... here you are. I sent for diesel fuel. It's on its way. I know you don't mind waiting, and you'd rather drive after nightfall."
OLIVIA: "How do you know that?"
SIMONE: "I know a lot of things. I see flashes sometimes when I’m around people. Like before, when I met you, I saw that you have a bullet in your pocket - - a slug. I've always had a gift."
1.13 The Transformation
OLIVIA: "And sometimes I get flashes."
Olivia was able to see flashes because of her experience in the tank but also because Walter had experimented on her when she was a child.
Is Simone's gift also because someone experimented on her? Did she inherit it from her mother? We know that Etta had special abilities that were passed down because of Olivia having been dosed with Cortexiphan.

Back at the lab, Walter is trying to figure out what the tech does to Peter's brain.
Gross!
WALTER: "It's all moving along the Cerebral Cortex, which controls higher-level thinking."
I was thinking back to 3.04 Do Shapeshifters Dream Of Electric Sheep when Walter was introducing himself to the staff at Massive Dynamic.
WALTER: "Brain and the mind are capable of so much. Don't you see that the brain is consciousness, hmm? The mind is god! There are no limits, except for those that we impose on ourselves."
But the brain Walter used failed. Astrid had collected enough data to extrapolate and the simulated brain continues to change.
WALTER: "The Cerebral Cortex is becoming so thick that it's overriding the area used to control emotions. Remarkable. Controlled evolution. It's worse than I feared."
Fitting that Walter used porcupine man's brain since Marshall Bowman transmogrified after injecting himself with a drug. He wasn't the only one willing to use this drug to become part of a controlled evolution movement endorsed by a secretive cult.

Meanwhile Olivia is waiting for the fuel truck to get there so she can take the truck with the magnet. She meets Darby.

DARBY: "Everybody's talking about you."
OLIVIA: "Yeah? What are they saying?"
DARBY: They said you're on Reward Wire. There's a bounty on you.
OLIVIA: "Really?"
Just love that face. This is one thing I'm going to miss - watching an incredible actress using every possible expression (and beyond) to speak without saying a word.

By now Olivia becomes suspicious and very cautious. Simone returns with a glass of water.
OLIVIA: What's in the water... a sedative?
3.13 Immortality
FAUXLIVIA:  "Oh, Frank, he made me drink the water."
Oh, wait - wrong Olivia. LOL

To proof that everything is fine, Simone drinks the water.
SIMONE: "You're wrong. Ahh. You have no faith. I could feel that when you came..."
That is another underlying theme in Fringe as well. It covers a whole spectrum of it - faith in science, faith in religion and faith in people. Walter said it first in 1.02 The Same Old Story
WALTER: "Faith. Never a bad thing to have."
Even the bad guys have it. 1.14 Ability
DAVID JONES: "But I have one thing Miss Dunham, that you do not. I have faith in you...."
OLIVIA: "I'm done with the parlor tricks. I want my truck and my magnet now."
SIMONE: "When the fuel gets here, you can have it... unless, of course, you'd like to leave now. Your car's over there. You can come back with more people if you want. But we're still gonna be here. You lost someone."
OLIVIA: "That's an assumption that you could make about anybody."
SIMONE: "But you lost your daughter... twice."

Back to Peter and Windmark.
CAPTAIN WINDMARK: "I have led you here to this place. Everything has taken place as I intended."
Have you now? I think you are full of "Wind"mark.

And then the game is on.
CAPTAIN WINDMARK: "This was what she saw. This was her last thought before she expired. Your emotions make you weak."
Just as cruelly as he had killed Etta he is now "torturing" Peter.
Peter outsmarts Windmark though, killing one of his Lieutenants in the process and then just disappears.
Windmark looks on - a bit surprised? - zaps himself outside, looking for Peter.
What happened to: "Everything has taken place as I intended." Muahaha!

Peter wanders through the streets.
Hello! He's bloody and still has the knife in his hand. Not really any reactions from anybody?

SIMONE: "I can understand why your faith has been shaken. But there are mysteries to the universe. My gift is evidence of that. The fact that you are here is evidence of that. Your rational mind can't make sense of your loss. But your heart, if you allow it to, will find its own intuitive way."
You should have met Olivia before.
3.14 6B
OLIVIA: "Maybe I am just incapable of being vulnerable."
She's become a lot more vulnerable since then.

SIMONE:  "I'm getting a strong feeling. Your daughter's still with you... even now."
Keep it up Simone. You trying to convince Olivia to have faith and hope is about to get even harder.

OLIVIA: "Simone, you have a gift. You can see things that other people can't. I don't doubt that. But... wherever you think this gift came from or whoever you think bestowed it upon you, it's simply an anomaly. I know that because I’m an anomaly."
Olivia, don't resent who you are and don't resent the abilities you had/have! Actually I think you need to get those back.
2.10 Grey Matters
BROYLES: "Don't be so hard on yourself. We're gonna be needing you too."
3.12 Concentrate And Ask Again
OLIVIA: "Simon, I know that dealing with our capabilities can sometimes be difficult, but... they can also help people."
3.21 The Last Sam Weiss
WALTER: "I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. You have no idea how extraordinary you are. If you would embrace that, there’s no end to what you can do."
4.07 Wallflower
NINA: Oh, Olive, you can't let what happened to you as a child define you. And no -- the answer to your question is you are perfectly normal. At least as normal as any of us is normal."

OLIVIA: "I have moved things with my mind."
1.14 Ability
3.21 The Last Sam Weiss
3.22 The Day We Died
4.14 The End Of All Things

OLIVIA: "I've lit things on fire."
2.14 Jacksonville and 3.15 Subject 13

OLIVIA: "I’ve caught bullets midair."
4.22 Brave New World Part 2

OLIVIA: "I've seen things that people only dream about. I've seen... the seams between universes ripped apart, things that humans shouldn't see."
3.14 6B and 4.20 Worlds Apart

OLIVIA: "People make up explanations... assign meaning to things without knowing, because it's reassuring. It's comforting. But I can't do that... because I know too much."
5.05 An Origin Story
CAPTURED OBSERVER: "Your emotions ascribed meaning to something that was not there."
Olivia can't find it comforting because she knows her abilities are/were because of experiments and drugs.

OLIVIA: "It's all just numbers. And The Invaders, as you call them, they're just better at math than we are."
Simone was talking about the mysteries of the universe earlier. As Olivia mentions that it's just numbers I was thinking about Neil Chung from 4.11 Making Angels. He believed that math was the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe, becoming obsessed with high-level differential equations. If he could have solved those, space and time could be flattened, in essence seeing past, present and future simultaneously. But of course he also had help from the Observer's tech.

As Olivia climbs onto the truck, Simone is smiling at her.
OLIVIA: "Why are you smiling?"
SIMONE: "Because I believe. You can't know everything."
Was Simone successful with Olivia? I had the impression that Simone's statement had a double meaning. Not only that Simone believed that everything would work out because of who she was. But also that she maybe saw something more in Olivia that made her say that.

Back at the lab Walter and Astrid are still working on the tech.
WALTER: "More heat, Asner."
Now that I'm reading the transcript I'm disappointed. I swear Walter called her "Esther". I guess I'm ascribing meaning to things that aren't there.

Just then Peter appears in the lab, asking Walter to suture his shoulder. Walter explains what the tech is doing to Peter. Peter is aware of all.
PETER: "If you could see what I see, Walter... if you could experience what it feels like to fully harness the untapped potential of the human brain, you, of all people, should know that there is no reason to be afraid."
I think because Walter knows, that's why he is afraid.
Walter is not sure that if the changes become permanent that he can bring Peter back.
PETER: "I'm going to do this. I'm going to shift Windmark's future so that he passes through the Square at exactly 7:19 P.M. When he does, I will know that he has been reset onto the correct path."
WALTER: "I can't allow you to make that mistake."
Walter is probably thinking back to when he tried to take Peter from the other side and the consequences he had to live with since.

PETER: "Don't you see, Walter? When he passes through the Square, she will be avenged."
5.05 An Origin Story comes to mind again.
ANIL: "Before you go on a journey of revenge, dig two graves."
One for Windmark and one for you Peter.
WALTER: "We all want Windmark dead... but the plan outlined on the tapes is the way to do it. We need you, Son. I need you."
You mean you want him dead, Walter. And we Fringies have said that since he tortured you.

PETER: "I have to go."
Peter is still wearing the wedding band around his neck. Will we ever get to see it on his finger? And what about Olivia?

And speaking of...
Olivia is on her way back to town, calling Anil for a place to hide the truck and the magnet. She encounters a roadblock.
Of course that was a trap. A couple of thugs are trying get some money out of her realizing that she is wanted by the Reward Wire and maybe being able to sell what she's got on the truck.
Does that expression not look like a dare?
Sure enough, Olivia ceizes the moment and becomes the "Dunahmnator".
But I guess the guys played unfair.

Briggs is calling the reward wire to get his reward up front.
He wants to meet at a Truth Church where the Observers are not allowed to scan anyone.

Time for Olivia to get out of there. She macgyvers her way out.
Getting rid of binds - check!
Finding the pressure gauge - check!

In the meantime Peter does a little manipulating as well.
Disabling the elevator so Windmark has to take the stairs.

Back to MacDunham, uh I mean Olivia.
Paint thinner and rag - check!
Piping - check!
Connecting hose - check!
Getting projectile - Is that what I think it is?
And how come she looks a lot more banged up? Did she put up more of a fight? That's our girl!

Bullet or rather slug - check!
No, you can't use that bullet! It's the one that saved the world and Etta has been wearing it and...

Preparing gun - check!
Turning on power - check!
Starting a fire - check!
Waiting for crook and releasing pressure switch - check!
Shooting first crook - check!
Shooting second crook - check!
The Dunhamnator is back!!!! And she didn't even have to use duct tape.

Retrieving said bullet - check!
Being relieved - check!
This the first time in a long time since we get to see haze over Olivia's face. A glimpse into what she feels maybe. Grateful for Etta having worn that bullet. And that it saved Olivia's life again. Always remembering Etta.

Olivia calls Walter. He informs her that Peter has been at the lab but no matter what Walter tried, he wasn't able to convince Peter.
Olivia knows that Windmark almost killed Peter. Peter already turned that to his advantage. He is bringing Windmark back to his plan which is to kill him.
PETER: "At exactly 5:12 tomorrow afternoon, I will meet him face-to-face. He will not expect it. He will not have a chance to fight back. At 5:13, I will snap his neck. At 5:14, he will draw his last breath."
When I heard Peter say 5:12. 5:13 I thought he might mean the episodes but then I don't know what 5:14 would mean.

As Olivia is listening to Peter, I think she's struggling to open up, definitely fearing she might not reach him anymore. Just try!
OLIVIA: "Peter, I’ve lost you before over this, and I’m not gonna let that happen again. Now, your thinking is way ahead of mine - - I understand that. But the fact that I am here has got nothing to do with anything except feeling. And soon, you're not gonna be able to feel anything, Not for me, not for ‘Etta."
3.09 Marionette
OLIVIA: "I held onto you, and it wasn't reasonable, and it wasn't logical, but I did it."
PETER: "When I was fighting Windmark, he showed me ‘Etta's last thoughts before he shot her. She thought of us... that day in the park before they invaded, before everything went wrong. Her last thoughts... they were of us."
Every time I watch this I cry. Again Josh and Anna rocked it.

PETER: "I will kill him tomorrow. If I remove the tech, I will not be able to do that. Don't you see?"
OLIVIA: "And what if tomorrow is too late? What if that tech becomes permanent? ‘Etta's not gone, Peter. Windmark didn't take her."
PETER: "Yes, he did."
OLIVIA: "No, he didn't. She's still here with us."
PETER: "She is dead."
OLIVIA: "She saved my life today with the bullet she brought to us. She's alive inside us. And there's nothing that Windmark can do about it, because the love that we can share with her now is invulnerable to space and time, even to them. And I know that our hearts are broken and that it hurts, But that's what makes us human."
I was thinking back to 3.14 6B. Peter was trying to convince Alice to let go.
PETER: "I know, I know. But you've already had what most of us only dream of. A lifetime with the person you love. Look around you. Your entire house is filled with mementos -- photographs, ticket stubs. Evidence of a life shared with somebody. Proof that what you and Derek had was true and real. And I know that when you have something so real, you'll do anything to keep from losing it. But please, you have to let him go."
PETER: "Emotion is our weakness."
OLIVIA: "No, Peter, it's our strength, because it's the one thing that they don't have."
1.06 The Cure
OLIVIA: "I am emotional. I do bring it into my work. It’s what motivates me. It helps me to get into the headspace of our victims… See what they’ve seen. Even if I don’t want to, even if it horrifies me. And I think it makes me a better agent."

OLIVIA: "Now, we need to hold on to our connection with ‘Etta, feeling what we felt for her, or she dies all over again. And we cannot let her be erased."
4.14 The End Of All Things
Peter is contemplating about his plan.
Etta comes to mind again.
OLIVIA: "Peter - - Peter, I’m not asking you to abandon her. I'm asking you to hold on to her. You're not one of them. You're one of us. I want you to listen to me. I'm not gonna lose you again. Peter... Look at me. I love you."
Olivia seems to get through to him as flashes of moments shared together with her and Etta come to Peter's mind.
The love that Olivia has for Peter is strong enough to pull him out. He pulls out the knife.
Did anyone else think he was gonna hurt Olivia? Cause I did.
He then cuts the Observer tech out of his head.
In a sense he... became a better man than his father.
I was thinking back to what Walter had told Olivia in 5.05 An Origin Story when he brought the video tape for them to watch.
WALTER: "You're afraid that you will lose each other again. I'm trying to tell you that I see what you see. And that's why this tape is so important. You must watch it and remember what you both had, what you still are, and you must hold on to that. You must face this pain together. The pain is her legacy to you both. It's proof that she was here. I have experience with this - - this sort of pain, and you can't escape it by building walls around your heart. Or by breaking the universe. Or by vengeance. You lost each other once... but you have another chance."
Earlier Olivia said she's crawling out of her skin. Peter literally shed the Observer skin to be himself again.

I was thinking about the end of 2.19 Brown Betty. Olivia had put the batteries in the spot where Peter's heart should be. Peter still dies for a few seconds but Olivia shared a love song with him and it was enough for him to come back (whether the batteries needed a minute to start is beside the point).
Peter and Olivia then proceeded to get the heart back. It is a special heart that can be split in two and it is still strong enough.
The tech to avenge the one that is gone in exchange...
for the bullet that saved the one that is still here!
So if Olivia's love for Peter was strong enough to convince Peter to stay "human", will this have any implications about Peter's love for Walter to be able to prevent Walter from turning into the man that he doesn't want to be?
4.15 A Short Story About Love
THE OBSERVER: "There is no scientific explanation. But... I have a theory based on a uniquely human principle. I believe you could not be fully erased because the people who care about you would not let you go. And you... would not let them go. I believe you call it 'love'."
OLIVIA: "I LOVE YOU!"
I'm going to enjoy this moment of bliss because we know it usually doesn't last long. What does it mean now for the plan? How many more tapes and pieces need to be looked for? Will Peter and Olivia be able to enjoy their new found relationship?
Can't wait to find out.

Other Observation
Now I think I've said it before but I've done theater for a few years and have worked on stage as well as a stage manager. I loved the ending scene. I only have one qualm with it. It was pouring rain and they didn't even have a spec of a rain drop on them.
Like at the end of 4.14 The End Of All Things it was raining as well but at least Peter got wet.
Ok, got that out of my system now.

REMINISCING ABOUT THE PAST!
This show deserves a few tributes so I would like to add some to the end of each remaining Observiews. How about some Walter quotes. There are so many which would take a lot of space so here are a few of my favorites.

1.01 The Pilot
WALTER: "Only thing better than a cow is a human. Unless you need milk. Then you really need a cow."
And thus we have Gene!
WALTER: "Excellent. Let's make some LSD."
1.04 The Arrival
PETER: "What formula are you rattling off at three o'clock in the morning?"
WALTER: "The formula for root beer... I haven't had it for ages. I… I thought I might make some in the lab tomorrow. Where are you going?"
PETER: "It occurs to me it might be easier to sleep in the tub."
WALTER: "A root beer float. Delicious."
2.02 Night Of Desirable Objects
WALTER: "Well, we're all victims of our own gene pool. Someone must have peed in yours."
2.05 Dream Logic
WALTER: "The ride back was invigorating. The turbulence over Ohio was like being in the belly of a seizing whale. I screamed like a little girl."
2.07 Of Human Action
WALTER: "I'm bored. No cadavers at this crime scene. Or food."
2.20 Northwest Passage
WALTER: "You know what you're putting into our bodies? Death! Delicious, strawberry-flavored death!"
3.04 Do Shapeshifters Dream Of Electric Sheep
WALTER: "Is anyone else hot in here?"
3.08 Entrada
WALTER: "In the 'Seventies', I innocently wandered into the wrong home and it was three days before I realized my mistake. And unlike Olivia, the woman with whom I was sharing a bed didn't look like my wife at all."
WALTER: "I have no idea how to bring our Olivia back. It's all because of that temptress. She tricked my son with her carnal manipulations and he fell right into her vagenda."
3.11 Reciprocity
WALTER: "Fauxlivia ruined U2 for all of us."
3.16 Os
WALTER: "Everybody poops, dear."
3.19 LSD
4.11 Making Angels
WALTER: "Mata Hari. Deceived and betrayed anyone yet today? It is almost lunchtime, after all."
WALTER: "I think I love her."
4.18 The Consultant (Fauxlivia offered her spare room to Walter)
WALTER: "I appreciate that. Thank you. And I shall refrain from sleeping naked."
4.19 Letters Of Transit
WALTER: "Licorice. Licorice. Li-cor-ice."
4.20 Worlds Apart
WALTER: "I think I shall miss them... more than I imagined."
5.01 Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11
WALTER: "What's that?"
HENRIETTA BISHOP: "It's an Egg Stick."
WALTER: "What a miserable future."
5.07 Five-Twenty-Ten
WALTER: "Belly, you monster!
I know this list is not complete. There are many more quotes. What would have been on your list?

I like your style; I agree with most of the observations. Fringe has been a solid show throughout its entire run. I’m happy to have a few of my DISH coworkers watching it too, so we can see gossip about it on lunch breaks. I’m saving this entire season to my DISH Hopper to relive all of the great moments once the finale happens. It’s nice to have a hard drive to let me save up to 2,000 hours of entertainment. I don’t have to pick and choose shows like I did with my last DVR. Cheers.

Great recap, I loved how Simone was like the Matrix Oracle telling Olivia exactly what she needed to hear.

As far as quotes go here are a couple of good ones -

1.20 Olivia: What are you doing here?

Walter: We're trying to plug a hole in the universe. What are you doing here?

2.11 Peter : That was just a movie and there's no flying monkeys inside the grocery store.

and some non Fringe team quotes -

4.11 There is no future. There is no past. Everything happens right now

4.3 You know what they say, even when it's the darkest, you can step into the light.

Mentioning the Oracle fired a connection for me and I just realised what the clue might have been in the previous episode.

When the team were at the Kelvin Genetics site, there was some graffiti on a piece of yellow machine or structure that said "Oracle"

good catch. I stared at that forever in the last episode but I couldn't make anything of it.

I have wondered if all the Matrix references were a pointer to something that will be revealed or whether they are just simply a homage to the films.
