Fox has released it's mid season schedule shake up, and Fringe finds itself being bumped to Friday night 9PM starting on 28th January. Known as the 'death' night in the US TV stakes, fans are understandably upset and disappointed by the move. That being said, there are also some positives that can come from the move. No longer will it be competing with the Thursday night powerhouses, but I believe it can make an ever bigger name for itself here.
Fans need to step up to the plate here and keep watching!! Fringe fans are loyal, so let's get together and make sure that we follow it wherever it goes, and spread to the word far and wide - Fringe is an awesome show that many, many more people SHOULD be watching!
Below is the press release from FOX Network President Kevin Reilly on Fringe's move and we can definitely take some positives from it:
"As for the decision to bump Fringe to Fridays, “Fringe has a very particular, loyal audience,” Reilly said. With the show picking up almost half of its viewrship via DVR, he doesn’t expect the sci-fi series to take a big ratings hit in moving to Fridays where it will be paired with solid reality performer Kitchen Nightmares. “If (Fringe) could stay near the current levels, we’ll get a big trade-up on Friday and will solve our problem there.” - Kevin Reilly (FOX Network President)
What are your thoughts Fringe fans?!

Does anyone know if the new schedule affect when it will air on CityTV in Canada? What I've seen so far this season, Canadian broadcasters may air in a different day and time.
I think there will a huge boost. 'Good Guys' did nothing in the slot before them on Friday. CBS's 'CSI:NY' is waning a little in loyalty. ABC & NBC will do what they always do with slots they can't influence - throw 'Dateline' and 'Primetime'.
The potential here is to garner some of the older demo that may not watch the show because it is against CSI on Thursdays. The downside is that Friday is usually fairly premierish and fresh on cable/sat - so some of sci-fi loyals may stick with their usual Friday fare... and do the DVR thing that Reilly wanted to go away.
Please FOX....don't cancel Fringe *beg*
FOX go to HELL! This is one of the best shows they have and they are going to rape it by moving it to Friday? Instead they are moving Human Traget after Bones OH BOY! Those two suck I mean fine Human Target better than Bones since Bones has gone crap after season 2. And who really cares about American Idol anymore? That show should been gone long time ago. I hope SCYFY picks it up, I know it's part of NBC/Universal but I think it would do so much better there and since only NBC premiered some good shows this year and Fox lost Lone Star they are just begging for some attention. FOX probably this year had the worst new shows premiered and people need to start realizing that all REALITY shows are edit to the point that most are scripted and are crap. Amazing at some people that watch garbage, one last thing I am sorry for this rage but this is one of my favorite showsand yes it does remind me a bit of my X-files days.
I swear FOX is going to get into really deep shit for this move, this is probably one of the biggest mistakes I have ever witnessed from a TV Network and yes FOX has many good shows before but now Fringe? That is a new fucking low FOX it is as bad as Alien Vs. Predator. FOX President you are one the greediest piece of garbage I have known the President before him and it was a female had more balls to premiere some good shows and give them a chance and especially she had taste to release some good movies unlike you all you care is about gold!
This is the one project Leonard Nimoy comes out of retirement to do. C'mon Fox, give this show better treatment.
Since "SyFy" has chosen to air wrestling in this time slot, there certainly is an opportunity for Fox to have a successful scifi show then. I hope it works.
Although if they resolve the conflict between the universes this season, I'm not even sure what Fringe would do in a season 4 anyway. They'd probably have to up the stakes in some ridiculous way.
I'll just enjoy the program while it lasts whether that's 3 seasons or more.
Ugh. The show's getting poor ratings because they've been putting the show on hiatus multiples times per season for the last two seasons. It's really no different then when they killed shows like Futurama by constantly changing the time slot.
I've always believed Fringe was better suited for Monday nights so hopefully this move to Fridays will be just for the mid-season! We all know Friday is the "kiss of death" for most (if not all) of FOX's tv shows!!!
Hi There, this is George from Mexicali Mexico. Believe me, I try everyday so hard to push my friends to see the show.In my work I tell wonderful things about FRINGE. "Hey guys", I say, "this is comparable with our lovely X-Files" come on, support us and see it. I suffer a lot when I come to see that 2.0 average rating and see other horrible shows have more. I want to be optimistics and think "thinking people" will save the good shows. Here in Mexico is not quite different, people like to see Televisa garbage programs. But I know somew day justice will win. Fox, don't kill the show, don't cancel the show.
I hope this is not the end for the show....just as it ramps up to being better than ever.
Say, does anyone know if anyone is selling merchandise (T-shirts, etc.) with that really cool F and backwards F Fringe Division logo on earth 2?
I'd watch Fringe on Monday or Sunday, I don't care, as long as it's still on air.
At the above user, they do sell Fringe Division shirts! I myself own one, and wear it every other Thursday. :)
(Guess I'll be wearing it on Friday now.. damnit.)
My husband and I had heard rumors of Fringe being canceled or moved and we were/are very disappointed. We will still be loyal and watch on Friday nights but I have to admit Fringe is the only reason we truly watch FOX. The show is very intriguing and the acting is beyond stellar. We are very hooked on the show and if FOX wants to ruin a good thing I am like most and hope that another channel will pick it up because I could watch the show for years and never get bored. Also like most I am tired of reality TV it is so far from true reality. Just ask those of us who have lost our jobs, homes and had family suffer fatal illnesses and not be insured. Thank goodness for a show like Fringe that can help us escape from all of it.
Everybody watch this brilliant show live!
http://www.petitiononline.com/FringeTV/petition.html
post the link everywhere. Every forum and tweet, facebook
Get the word out get this moving by word of mouth. say yes we can safe Fringe!
It would be a crime to take off such a brilliant written show of the air. And it only cements that network tv is dying and soon only reality tv will be on network tv. And then only cable will be watched. This will bite the networks in the ass, to much reality is gonna kill network tv
This is terrible. I was already worried it would be the last season of Fringe and now I'm pretty sure it will be. The problem is that it's not the kind of show you can just start watching because it's way too complicated. Hopefully viewers will stay loyal, but most people aren't at home watching TV on Friday night. D:
damm , I comment before - but its not stepping out of my head...
This is sad.. and FOX are lame . and im angery so much ! You know , im from Israel - thats just saying that the show IS doing well ! And people all over the world see it , amd enjoy every minute ! I have FRINGE bag , shirt , pin and a hugh place in my heart.. Damm thats just not OK. the best show that ever aired !
Remember to vote often for Fringe in the People's Choice Awards as well: Sci-fi/Fantasy category! If it wins, it's be an atrocity to cancel the newly crowned Best Sci-fi Show.
you have one vote from Mexico and I am promoting to vote for Fringe among mexicans. We will win ,Fringe.
NO!! Leave it alone! We don't want it to end up like Ugly Betty! If it moves to Friday, it is doomed! I love this show!
It's time to fight for Fringe, folks. Let's get organized and set up a website from which we can coordinate our efforts to raise awareness of "Fringe Fridays", and help promote the show in general. Fox execs washed their hands of Fringe. Now it's up to us to keep this wonderful show alive.
There is really nothing on Fridays. So it's OK.
Gosh, what's the problem with you Fox guys?? You must be kidding me! You have the best, the most clever, the best written, the best performed show ever and you just don't even care about it? And I'm sad to see it's everywhere the same. I'm from France, and here when I talk about the show to my friends, they barely know it. But how could I blame them when it's broadcasted on wednesday at 11pm, with no promotion at all!! And it's quite the same for my cousin who lives in the Netherlands. What a shame not to give a chance to this amazing show. I know that friday night is a very bad schedule for TV shows in the US, so I beg you Fox, don't even think of cancelling this show or I'll come right from France to kick your ass!! When I see how am I during hiatus, just as if I were in detox, suffering withdrawal symptoms, I just can't imagine how I would be if they'd cancel the show!!
And btw, winter hiatus till January 28th??? wtf, 2 months? isn't it one month usually? Come on, I'm so pissed! (sorry for my language but I'm so angry right now)
I think Fringe is the best show ever and not many people watch it because it requires to think a lot and to deduce and follow the whole show a lot. So i dont think everyone should be watching it, it's just not for everyone. I dont see myself watching fringe on weekend (friday), but i will because i love the show. It's the best one ever. And I agree with Anne, a 2 months break is a lot to wait!!
I love the show! It has many fans in Mexico. We want season four!
I'm going to repeat what I wrote elsewhere, because it makes sense to me.
It doesn’t matter what night it’s on. If you are a true fan, it would not keep you from tuning in. I will follow it even if it was on Sundays. FOX is counting on it to draw viewership for Friday nights. THIS IS HIGH PRAISE. THIS MEANS THEY THINK FRINGE IS STRONG ENOUGH TO SURVIVE THE SHIFT. If Bones can over come being bump about by American Idol, so can FRINGE. Bones had repeated the whole summer its first season to stay alive. FRINGE survive hiatus after hiatus. And according to you, is still gaining new viewers.
Of course it requires a unique audience to watch it, but you don’t see me watching a Bones episode 10x a week or write myself out for Supernatural.
The X-Files moved all over the place and still wound up with 9 seasons. I never missed an episode. If you keep watching, Fringe can have 11 seasons.
Do not believe what the ratings show you. How many of you are counted by Nielson ratings anyways? I know I am not. So there is nothing to worry about.
THERE. I’VE SAID MY PEACE.
The whole TV ratings system has been and will always be flawed and inaccurate. Only a small percentage of people are counted to represent the majority of the viewing public, and most of them live in the corn and bible belts of this h'ar USofA.
I don't even own a TV anymore, by choice. I watch only five shows, all on Hulu(three from FOX,including Fringe) as do many others I know. As far as the Nielson ratings go, online viewers will remain invisible.
Also, since FOX is consistently at the bottom of the ratings pile (and not necessarily because shows are of lesser quality on FOX), any show going into the Thursday slot will come out at or near the bottom. Mr. Reilly is doing Fringe a favor by putting it in a kinder gentler slot where it won't be continually flogged by top competitors. Let us hope the strategy is worthy if this awesome show.
I will swear to continue to watch Fringe no matter the day or time of the week. This is one of the best shows I have ever watched and will support it for however long it lasts. If FOX dares to cancel it, then screw them and so be it. They will lose so many viewers because of it. But I'm not too worried right now so, I'll just set my DVR for Fridays and love keep loving Fringe.
Besides, if it gets cancelled here, maybe in another parallel universe it will continue to thrive. And we can somehow figure a way to cross over. That's some good news, right? :)
I really hope FOX WILL NOT cancel Fringe, because is the best SciFi show on American television at the moment and really one of the best EVER!! The acting is wonderful and the writing, too. I used be a die-hard fan of Alias and Lost, but I have to say that I've never been hooked on those shows as much as I am now on this terrific 3rd season of Fringe!!
I think that we, the fans, should do something to show FOX that Fringe is worth to be saved: we should talk about Fringe as much as possible, we should promote it EVERYWHERE (on social networks, blogs, etc.) and, most importantly, we should keep on watching it, even if they move it to Friday.
Also, I think that FOX should rethink their scheduling system: all those breaks along the way REALLY contribute to kill the show, because after every break they lose millions of viewers. And that's only FOX's fault!
I'm from Italy and I wanted to let you know that Fringe is VERY MUCH LOVED also outside U.S.
Please, please: give Fringe a chance!!!
GOD DAMN IT. I was happy when Supernatural moved to Fridays and now I have to friggin pick again this year. Poor Fringe, too bad season 2 wasnt a shiteload better, Im gonna have to stick with the show thats hasnt had a crappy season yet...
> Frank
The only reason it is being moved is because of American Idol. Why do other shows have to be moved because their ratings are down.Maybe that is a sign that AI is on the downfall. We can only hope.
Everyone here needs to STOP blaming FOX for everything. FOX has been nothing but supportive of the show since the beginning. If anything, everyone should be thanking FOX for giving it chance after chance to grow, despite it being a high cost show with middle of the road to low ratings.
No network wants a show to fail. They want it to be successful, and have an audience. It's how they make money! But, despite some excellent promotion, the ratings are low. That isn't Fox's fault, it's because people simply aren't watching it live. The best thing you all can do is to stop hating, and just be supportive of the show in the best ways that you can.
I cant believe this... the show is on death row! This has become my favorite show since fox ended/ canceled "24". With all due respect THIS PISSES ME OFF! another excellent show goes out & more "reality series" go in .....I guess this is what we deserve.
Nooooooooo!!!!!!!! They have to keep Fringe's storyline going! The show is one of the most interesting show I have ever seen so please don't cancel Fringe.
yeaaaaaaaaaa,
i like fringe and i watch it after i download it from torrent sites. its the only way i can watch it; i just hope it wont be cancelled and i hope it wont turn into an endless bullshit like 'lost'
Please don't cancel Fringe!!!
It's such a great show and there's no other like it out there.
I am going to be so depressed if they cancel Fringe. Like many of you here, this is the ONLY show I watch and follow every week! I am from Spain and therefore I can only watch if I download it on the Internet. It really pisses me off the way FOX treats this show and still talk about being really supportive of Fringe. C'mon! One of the main reasons why Fringe keeps losing viewers is the fact that they have been putting the show on eternal hiatus since season 1, which really puts many viewers off, especially those who are easily disengaged. If you want a show to succeed you have to make it easy for people to watch it and keep its audience motivated!
I will never understand the audience rating system anyway, but it really makes me angry that only live figures are accounted for. If Fox was more in touch with the real world and its audience they would realize that MILLIONS of viewers around the world watch Fringe via DVR or on line. I swear if this show is canceled I'm not watching any more shows, as this is becoming a habit that really pisses me off: The 4400, Surface, Invasion, Flashforward... to name but a few shows I faithfully followed until they were canceled! Even LOST was kept till the end despite getting ridiculous after season 4!
I hope Fringe will be the exception to this "kiss of death" Friday night thing ...
"If Fox was more in touch with the real world and its audience they would realize that MILLIONS of viewers around the world watch Fringe via DVR or on line. "
DVR numbers don't count towards ad rates, therefore they generate minimal to no revenue to the show. Prime time TV shows make 97% of their money through LIVE viewing.
"i like fringe and i watch it after i download it from torrent sites. its the only way i can watch it"
Doing things like this results in shows being canceled because they aren't being watched live, on TV, with commercials. You also probably won't be buying the DVDs since you've already downloaded it illegally.
I love Fringe and live in Australia, Im too addicted to this show and my anxiety won't allow me to wait 3 months, so I download it. And it's not illegal if someone decides to digitally record the show then shares it through a torrent you tool, and what do you know Chris, I have both seasons on blu-ray so stfu, my viewing makes no difference to FOX since I live on the other side of the planet, but believe me if I lived in America, I would order Pizza on a Friday night and watch my beloved Fringe.
"And it's not illegal if someone decides to digitally record the show then shares it through a torrent you tool"
Yes it is.
"I have both seasons on blu-ray so stfu"
I'm glad I was wrong about that then. Your blu-ray purchases are much appreciated!
"my viewing makes no difference to FOX since I live on the other side of the planet"
Indeed you would be right about that, since it is a Warner Bros produced show, and simply airs on FOX in America, and wouldn't make any money on any airing abroad.
Here's a thought, Fox: why not move your news slot to the next hour like the other major networks? I'd rather see Fringe come on after House on Mondays and move Lie to Me to the Friday slot. Fringe is truly a unique show, so well-written and intelligent. It is true what others have said about putting shows on hiatus for 2 weeks or months. People have short attentions spans and who can keep up with the networks' sporadic schedules. It was so much better in the 80s when you could watch a show every week from Sept. to May and not have to worry about it getting canceled or taking a 2 month break!
Chris, you don't know how Fringe fans are. I'm not living in the USA neither and I download all of the episodes, illegally... But when the DVD appears here, home, I buy it. I cant say I'm fan if I'm not supporting some way the show. Simply, I cant do more :)
Chris, Sorry for calling you a tool, Yes, it is illegal but the law has never been enforced, and if it were half the human population will be in jail.
People will continue to torrent their favorite t.v shows. While I acknowledge a lot of material involves piracy, I believe T.V shows don't lose that much money through torrents, U.S shows have already aired, this does not effect the neilsen ratings, T.V companies have already made money through their advertisers. Perhaps the revenue lost occurs when the shows hits the DVD market.
But anyway, Please all U.S residents make Friday, 'Fringe Friday', if all the people that currently watch the show on Thursdays simply continue to watch it, then a 1.9-2.0 demo rating is all Fringe needs to continue into a forth season.
Fringe is the best show ever!!! I can't believe what I'm reading here. I'm not american and just can buy the DVD's when they comming out. But I'm still a fan and I don't wanna wach the show goes down.
Yes, the only thing we can do ist wacht! Fringe needs a forth season and I hope they don't cancel the show!
GO FRINGE
Fringe is one of the few reasons I turn on my TV anymore. It really doesn't matter where you put it in terms of programming I will still follow my beloved show as I did with LOST. FOX please do not kick this one to the curb, let it flourish and grow.
My daughter and I just love Fringe.
FOX please don't cancel Fringe! This really is the best show on TV. There's not another show like this on the writing is superb, the acting is riveting and if you gave it the attention and marketing it needed we wouldn't have to beg you to keep it! Don't cancel, please don't cancel!
Begging for you to keep it on,
Wendy
Here is Sam from Switzerland. I too love Fringe and agree that it is currently the best show that I know of, and I can honestly say I watch a lot of series. As previously mentioned, those living abroad have no influence on the survival of a TV serie but I really hope they do not cancel it. Downloading is legal here in switzerland (uploading is not though) but I wish Apple would improve its iTunes store outside of US, cause I am sure many of us would be ready to pay to get the episode there if it would support the shows we love. But again, no advertisement.
Please keep it for at least a fourth season!!!
I've watched Fringe since the first episode. It's extremely hard to find anything decent to watch. Take away Fringe and maybe I'll listen to the radio most of the week. It's bad enough that this will be the third night of the week. But here in On. Canada they've also made network switches. I have a friend who thought this fall it was cancelled. It seems Fringe is going up against some heavy odds. Lets hope it can win.
I am a 25 year man, who hasn't cried since my dog died when I was eleven, I will cry if Fringe gets cancelled. Heck, I might even jump off a bridge...
if this show gets cancelled after caprica too, i will die inside
Oh please, please don't cancel Fringe. It's the only show that keeps me alive this year and if you guys cancel it ... I might die next year. Do help to sustain my life will ya?
The show Fringe is beyond our imagination and it's so interesting to watch the conflicts depicted between the characters aka Olivia/Peter, Peter/Walter, Walter/Olivia...it's a mind-racing-finding-solution-conflict and we all would like to see how each characters grow. To do that, we need more seasons. Don't cancel it ~ PLEASE!!!
I really hope that this show doesn't get canceled. There is nothing else like it on TV. It the the first Sci-Fi show, I've been able to get my wife hooked on. I think she likes it even more than I do. We will watch it no matter what time slot.
Post this everywhere to remind poeple to watch Fringe
http://massive-dynamic.deviantart.com/gallery/27286515#/d33bxbe
It seems that everyone is seeing this move as certain cancellation (which in the past, was totally the case) but I actually see a great deal of hope for Fringe in this. Remember back to Season 1, Fringe averaged 9-10 million viewers a week. It's move to Thursdays was to try and save Fox's Thursday nights (which were failing, badly) and Fringe came in and did decently for going up against a show with an already very loyal fanbase (The Office).
The problem with Thursdays though was just that, so many people were already loyal to The Office and had put in a few years. They weren't just going to stop watching that for Fringe, which they'd only seen for a year. No, they would keep watching The Office. And there's no coming into Fringe halfway through so it was kind of screwed in that slot from the get go.
Those 2 things are what make me very optimistic for this move to Friday. First off, the show has a chance to regain some of it's old viewers (should they hopefully get caught up) that were lost with the move to Thursdays. Not only that, but there's really no reason why viewership should diminish at all with the move.
The other great thing about the move is Friday doesn't have very solid competition. Supernatural will probably bring the most competition and even that isn't nearly as harsh as what Thursdays gave. With everything considered, Friday could really be the saving grace that a show like Fringe needed. Fox knows that Fringe was one of the best decisions they've made in a while. And they had to know when numbers went down on Thursdays that it wasn't the show, it was the night that really got into trouble. As much as Fox has a history for making really poor decisions with their line-ups and their lack of promotion for shows that it just doesn't believe in, Fringe remains a staple of Fox's promotions and image. I actually think the move to Fridays wasn't the dreaded graveyard move as so many of us (including myself at first reaction) thought it was. I think the move was strategic (for once) by Fox who actually does think Fringe can save the networks Friday night, and I have to agree with them. Not only could the show soar on Fridays, I actually think it will and I think Fox is setting it up to do so. They need to keep up with promotion and ad spots to let people know, Fringe has a good lead-in and they don't have much competition.
I also have to say, that I agree with a post on fringebloggers.com about how Fringe is not a show that needs saving, it's just a show that needs more live views. The show is great and it needs to be promoted by us (the fans) as being great instead of a show that needs saved because...if it needs saved, then maybe its just not that good (as I would think if I were an outsider). I think this is the best show on TV right now though - well written, great production value, great cast and direction - not a show that needs saving, a show that needed what it's getting. A new night to really make it's own. We even have a weekly campaign to look forward to with "Fringe Fridays" which I think needs to be promoted by the fans as much as possible. We need to view this as a positive step towards more views for the show.
As far as I can tell, Fox doesn't come out and defend a show (and say how much they enjoy it) the way they have with Fringe. I'm going to be hopeful, get my friends caught up and get ready for Fringe Fridays!
i love this show and do not want to see it cancelled what so ever. If they are going to cancel it that need to atleast finish the show and not leave us all hanging
WE ARE FROM BULGARIA AND WE LOVE FRINGE
Folks, calm down. The X-files did great on Friday nights. It actually went down in numbers when they moved it to Sunday nights after the 5th season. So, don't get too worried about Fringe. A lot of Sci-fi geeks stay home on Friday nights, people aren't going out as much as they used to, and think about it being a great start to the weekend.
A lot of Sci-fi geeks stay home on Friday nights, people aren't going out as much as they used to
Yeah... but all the cable channels already hold the leash on those sci-fi puppies... that is why Thursday was a good night - no competition (dog fight) for sci-fi viewers. Saturday night late viewings were supposed to attract a new crowd of fans and let those that have strayed back into the game... the compromise is to draw new/reclaimed Sat viewers forward one-day and drag Thursday loyals back one day.
Please Fox, don't do it! Friday night is date night for me, I'm never home on Friday's! Please don't do it to me, please!
Sarge
FRINGE FRIDAY!!!!
Fringe is a genuinely spectacular show! Combine crisp acting, creative, cerebral and exciting plot structure, add a dash of Walter humor and you get...Fringe :) As my favorite show of all time, I can only hope that it is kept on for another season and more to come! This show is still building a name for itself outside the usual SciFi fan community and it has inertia. FOX would be senseless to cancel it now, for it has not yet climaxed. The jump to the Friday slot is a low blow for this phenomenal show, however we Fringe fans need to continue to show support and watch it whenever it is aired. There never has been such a well-crafted show and I cannot believe there are actually people out there who still watch reality TV and American Idol crap equivalent to depriving your brain of oxygen for an hour straight. Anyway, Fringe is definitely thrilling and worthwhile and with any luck moving it to Friday will eliminate more ugly hiatuses!!
Love you Fringe <3
I am a fan of Fringe in Hong Kong, Fringe is really a good show and there are many fans in Hong Kong.We all expect season 3 will coming soon in HK. We hope fox won't cancel Fringe. By the way, Hong Kong are now broadcasting "human target" and I really think that this show is crazy and not attractive.
Well put, Matt-ernate.
I think that Fringe has a better chance of thriving, with less competition. Hopefully, we'll get some return viewers and possibly some new recruits.
How about this...anyone who loves Fringe and wants to keep it around needs to recruit others to the cause. So, think of your friends that love sci fi, but don't discount others. We should be proactive about keeping our favorite show around. It shouldn't be that hard to sell, anyway. Just get people to watch a few episodes and the Fringe will do the job. WORD OF MOUTH.
If you can, watch the show when it's scheduled. If you're someone that has DVR, record it. If you don't have DVR, try to view it on FOX's website, so they at least know there are other fans that just can't watch it when it's scheduled.
I want to see a few more seasons of my favorite show, so lets get it done. Agreed? Agreed.
Scrw you Kevin, Fox network dud. Fringe should be left alone, you are killing it by making this move. Who is going to help you out your here to help us.
Are the Fox execs out of the bleeping minds? Why would you do that?!?! The exact same thing was done with Firefly and now Fringe?!?! Seriously upset here...
It seems a deliberate act to hurts the shows ratings.. :(
