The fugue playing when Astrid put on the Bach album titled "Bach Fugues" was not a fugue, but rather the "Air" movement from Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068 (Air on a G String, as it is otherwise known).
Why not actually play a fugue?
Johann, The album was Bach's work: The Art of Fugue (BWV 1080) and is considered to be largely based on mathematical permutations of Pythagorean theory and counterpoint. A highly mathematical reference, albeit musical.
Also worthy to note, Bach used the letters of his name to form a musical motif (like a musical autograph) in this work.
You are correct that the piece playing when Astrid starts the album, however, is not of that work. I doubt the "Art of Fugue" work would have come across as studious or as recognizable.
6955 is about a G# 8th. Not exactly, so maybe that was not their intention.
I think the introduction of the First People gives us some interesting possibilities for who the Observers may be.
Does anyone know what Dziedzinie, the word on the electrical component the shapeshifter put into the circuit board in the cube, means? I can't make it out from the various on-line translations.

I read elsewhere that it means "field". Unfortunately, it means field as in agriculture, not magnetic.
