Esquire magazine has selected Anna Torv for their upcoming "Women We Love" article - which is essentially a collection of random quotes and racy photos. The only quote even remotely Fringe related has to do with script dialogue:
Sometimes there will be a line in the script and I just can't imagine saying it. I'll ask an American and they'll say, "Oh, yeah. That's how we say it." We just say things differently in Australia — like torch. I'd ask, "Can I have the torch?" It seems to fall flat when I say, "Can I have the flashlight?"
The March 2010 issue of Esquire should be on shelves soon, but you can see more photos after the jump, or at Esquire.com.

Oddly, I don't think of Anna in that way at all. The racy photos just seemed wrong. And I'm usually all in favor of the latest starlets posing in their altogether, just not this time.

Andrew, I feel it similar way. Anna definitely surprised me! :)
She is a beautiful woman so why not show it.. bu still :)

I hate Mark Valley.

Sad that she has to resort to this. I had been endorsing her/character as a role model to my teenage girls.

Now she is just another Hollywood nobody who hasn't the good sense to retain part of herself, for her and her husband.

Count Screwloose said...

Oh, come now, folks.

These are modest and tasteful shots of an attractive young woman in a Western society. You'd see far more of her in a bikini or a 1965 Playboy, for that matter. I hardly think we need to break out the burqas just yet.

you don't think of her that way. She's Olivia..ass kickin FBI agent. Not Megan Fox..look at how hot I am.
Personally, I think she did what she was told. She's trying to get her image out there, but I think these are a bit over the top. It's not that they are raunchy, but it's like they are making her try too hard to be sexy.

I simply say these pictures are taken bad, Anna is a beautiful woman, hot, sexy and smart, whoever took her photo is bad.

Melda said...

It seems ridiculously incongruous to see these in conjuction with the Olivia we know from Fringe.

It's not that I'm surprised, or that I'm really disappointed in Anna Torv, but I object to the way she's sexualized like this. Is this really the only thing we look for in 'women we love'? What about intelligence or confidence or humor? Are near-nude photos the only thing that will make us sit up and pay attention? I think not.

I'd love to see the reaction you conservative nutjobs would have had if you saw Anna on "Mistresses" where she shared a steamy kiss with... a woman! (gasp!) Wake up, people. It's 2010; teenagers on myspace post more suggestive photos than the ones of Anna in Esquire. Just because she portrays a buttoned-down FBI agent, doesn't mean she is one. These pictures are tastefully done, playful, and show Anna for the stunning beauty she truly is. I will appreciate the photos for all you uptight people that can't.

You people live in a highly disturbed state of mind.Anna is an actress not some doll that you can dress up and pretend to be something you like. And when someone touches your doll, you start to feel very offended about it.Stop filming your life, yes the show is great, but Anna is a living person and she can do whatever she wants without asking some old fashioned idiots like you for approval.

I'd tap that

Melda said...

Boy. Apologies for expressing my opinion. Thanks for your thoughtful tolerance of my views! :D

well, Melda, you are don't have much tolerance for a GROWN WOMAN posing sexy in a men's magazines. Sounds like you don't read a lot of magazines since Cosmo loves to put shirtless men in their magazines and NOBODY whines but a confident woman like Anna torv always gets criticized for posing topless.

Melda said...

You seem to have misunderstood me. I was not criticizing Anna Torv. It is her career and her life, and she is free to do whatever she wants. What I was objecting to was the sexualization of women in our society. I believe Anna Torv IS a confident, smart woman - and I think that this is overlooked when all people can see of her is a sex object. It's not her I have a problem with.

Also, I would appreciate it if you would refrain from making assumptions about me and my reading habits.

Melda, don't you think that men are also sexualized? How many times have we seem a big name star pose naked or topless? What about Sasha Baron Cohen? Didn't he pose naked for GQ? I recall Johnny depp posing half naked smiling on the front cover of Vanity star? I even saw Tiger woods posing half naked in Vanity fair

Now really, why the fuss over the sexual obectivity of women when us women do it all the time with men?

Melda said...

I could fuss equally over the sexual objectivity of men.

Nothing to get upset about here. Anna Torv is a fabulous actress and if this is what it takes to get her noticed in Hollywood, Woo Hoo! Lucky us. Not sure the long men's underwear was the best idea, but they don't have her in frilly knickers & a teddy, that would have been wrong.

Count Screwloose said...

The long men's underwear was a great idea, IMHO. I'm hoping the alternate Olivia turns out to have a fondness for them.

Girls in boys undies has been a thing for a while now. If you grew up with four older brothers & surrounded by their undies, it's hard to find them alluring, even with the lovely Anna Torv in them. It's me, not you, photo stylist.

Yeah. Agree with Melda. While I am all in favor people being free to express themselves... this photo shoot just seems forced - and false, to what I sensed her true nature to be. I mean if if I saw her on a topless beach near her home just South of Brisbane in Australia, I'd say -- cute girl, then not look again. But most of the poses in the photo shoot say - Contrived!

I think the tanktop and bvd's are closer to who she is, and the one-piece swimmer... not the whatever boots and ass chaps. The long john pantalones - staring into the sunrise is good too. (you have to be from Arizona and have to have 4 daughters to understand that one) but not the - oohh, let me cover my boobies tease. grow-up dingle-berries, the only decent thing GQ has done in the past 3 decades is to teach us (men) how to get a PERFECT shave.

I wont put down others here, but I like most of them, I think anyone who has seen Fringe and seen Anna on interviews knows that she is smart, but there is nothing wrong with showing how beautiful her body is, as a lesbian, I love the pic of her in the tanktop, and the other ones were kinda of playful and cute, as well as sexy, don't hate her for being a sexual person, not everyone thinks nudity is so bad,it depends on how its done and who doing it,and she is beautiful, and I guess non of you will want to see her in that Miniseries Pacific, sense I've hear she shows her boobies as some of you put it,it may scar you for life, me I am not just a fan of Fringe I am a fan of Anna, even more, and I want to see her go far, sure I don't want her to be like Megan Fox, she's just a little dumb bimbo, but I do want her to make it big, so more power to her.

Ahhhh.... i just love this girl....

I know what some of you mean. I'm a warm blooded hetro male, and although I won't look away from these beautiful shots of her, it seems wrong somehow. I think its because she is such a good actor (I was convinced she was American) that we all have come to believe that Anna Torv IS Agent Dunham in real life, or at least MUST have the same kind of defensive/damaged personality.

Craig Tee said...

Power to her I say, good on you Anna. If people don't like the pics don't look at them...life is way too short to NOT do things =) I would venture a guess and say that "most" warm blooded males would move heaven and earth just to be her man....including I'm not afraid to say myself.
