Fringe has been officially renewed for a fifth and final season! Woo hoo!
The announcement was made by Fringe executive producer Joel Wyman (@JWFringe), and was accompanied by this Fringe Season 5 trailer!

FOX BOOKS “FRINGE” FOR A FIFTH AND FINAL CHAPTER
13 Episodes Ordered for 2012-2013 Season
FOX has picked up FRINGE for a fifth and final 13-episode season, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.
“FRINGE is a remarkably creative series that has set the bar as one of television’s most imaginative dramas. Bringing it back for a final 13 allows us to provide the climactic conclusion that its passionate and loyal fans deserve,” said Reilly “The amazing work the producers, writers and the incredibly talented cast and crew have delivered the last four seasons has literally been out of this world. Although the end is bittersweet, it’s going to be a very exciting final chapter.”
FRINGE co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams added, “We are thrilled and beyond grateful that FOX – and our fans – have made the impossible possible: FRINGE will continue into a fifth season that will allow the series to conclude in a wild and thrilling way. All of us at Bad Robot are forever indebted to our viewers and the amazingly supportive FOX network for allowing the adventures of Fringe Division to not only continue, but to resolve in a way that perfectly fits the show.”
“This pickup means the world (both of them) to us, because we love sharing these stories with our enthusiastic fans,” added FRINGE showrunners and executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman. “On behalf of the cast and crew, we applaud our fans and FOX for allowing us to imagine the impossibilities together for so long. Season Five is going to be a conclusive thrill ride for all of us.”
FRINGE’s compelling fourth season concludes with three all-new FRINGE Friday episodes in a row, counting down to the two-part season finale on Friday, May 4 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Friday, May 11 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). In “Worlds Apart,” airing Friday, April 27 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), team members on both sides, including Olivia (Anna Torv) and Peter (Joshua Jackson), continue to fight for a common cause, and there are shocking developments tied to the Cortexiphan children.

As much as I am sad that FRINGE will be coming to an end and that the season only gets 13 episodes, I am happy that it will get the finale that it so rightly deserves. Long live FRINGE! I'll probably cry like I did when LOST ended haha.

ReplyDeletealready have bought season 1, have looked for the other seasons, but am going to have to go to another store. Prefer the hard copy, as there are too many restrictions to the iTunes versions. Fringe is something you buy keep and see.

ReplyDeleteso sad to see it come to and end...this show is my second favorite show EVER...behind X-Files. I really like Fox programming over the past few years especially with 24 and Fringe.
ReplyDeleteWell, I am sooo glad that FRINGE is going to continue for a fifth season. I just wish it'd stay on much longer than that. I love FRINGE very much and we don't want to see any of them go. What is john noble, joshua jackson, and anna torv to do if FRINGE is cancelled next year? Please, FRINGE must continue on like the x files did.

The news the realization of a 5th and final season for Fringe, it's really a great victory for all of us fans, producers, writers, directors, all the cast of actors, the networks involved, the production companies involved, the specialized media, enterprises advertisers, support groups ... costumes, makeup, stunts, musicians, camera men, photographers... ReplyDeleteI guess season 5 will take place in the future!! I am so excited that Fringe got renewed for a final season!! That's just how much FOX and we care about the show! But it is still sad to see my favorite show go off air this fall, just like Chuck last fall (which also ended with a 13-episode season 5)!

ReplyDeleteWith only 13 there will be more cliffhangers, more building up, and fewer (if any) classic COTWs. Is that good or bad? Mostly good I think. The 13 ep season works well on cable. I enjoyed "Homeland".
And let's hope baseball doesn't mess up the mix. 13 straight would be great.
Mixed feelings about a movie sequel. TV shows usually don't translate well to the big screen, but this production crew is certainly capable of proving me happily wrong.
And I'm still holding out hope for my Grand Theory that Mr. Papaya Head is the key to Everything ;)...
I don't see a reason for a movie sequel. This is usually called for when a TV show ends without resolution to the story (e.g. Firefly).
ReplyDeleteFringe will get 13 episodes to tell the rest of the story. If you want, you can think of S5 as a 13-hour movie :)
I have been checking twitter and google every day waiting for this GREAT news. I already have seasons 1-3 on blu-ray and will addimg 4&5 as soon as they are available. I love watching a show that is so entertaining AND makes you think.

ReplyDeleteI think, too, that "Mr. Papaya Head" is the key to everything. The "September" is a typical dissident and it seems that this is an internal struggle between the Observers, at least it sounds like it is. I agree with you, that his "Grand Theory."

Even though it is difficult or unlikely, without a doubt that these wonderful stories of Fringe, would support a kind of series to film the "big screen". Something along the lines of the type of "Mission: Impossible" or "Bourne", also I think.

ReplyDelete@Paul S It due to the costs in making the show and the veiwership not being as high as they need for the commercial time slots. I am thinking the only reason we got the 13 episodes is due to the campaigning and how close fringe was to the required episodes for syndication.

ReplyDeleteI am crazy excited! Tho I cant help but wonder if that bitter ending is Olivia (or Peter) dying once and for all. I'm going to be very sad and disappointed. When LOST killed Jack in the end, it made sense and restored the "balance" and therefore was not disappointing to me. But I don't think killing off Olivia will do the same. (To all writers and producers of Fringe: I'm going to be VERY depressed and inconsolable if Olivia or Peter dies, especially since they struggled so much and still didn't get what they deserved...) I just want my happy ending.. Can I please have it? PLEASE? :)
