Fringe Episode 121: Unearthed

After a teenage girl is pronounced brain dead, her mother takes her off life support, but when doctors operate quickly to remove her organs, the deceased girl shockingly awakens screaming an alphanumeric code. Equally as perplexing as her resurrection is that she is now somehow able to speak Russian and possesses classified information only a high-ranking soldier would know. While the girl’s mind-bending condition intensifies, Walter dusts off some old lab videos and hypothesizes the unthinkable, sending Olivia and Peter to investigate the bewildering case.

  5. thank god this was an un-aired episode, i almost died when he was there

  6. It's either an unaired episode or its an episode coming to us from the alternate universe, where Charlie might not be dead. It was good to see him again. They definitely filmed this recently, so it's not an unaired episode.

  7. They screwed up...it's sloppy when they throw in a "new episode" when it really isn't. Fine that they had one in their pockets to air if they didn't have anything else, but they should have actually looked at the episode rather than airing it in the middle of season 2after Charlie has already been killed off....air it, but cut his scenes.
It was a decent episode, but they should have thought about throwing in this one and letting us think it was new.
If it was Charlie in an "alternate reality" umm, I think Olivia would have picked up on that.

  8. This was a very supernatural episode. Where was the scientific cause for the dead guy coming back to get revenge on his wife? I recall Walter saying something about the drugs they gave him to forestall the radiation poisoning, but even so, it was rather...out there. Even for Fringe.

    And the end was creepy.

  9. The episode was great, but there's one thing that keeps bugging me. At the end when Lisa is hugging everybody in Walter's lab, she says to Olivia "I'll be 18 in a year. Don't wait too long to make a move." What does she mean?

  10. Blah!!! I'm a bit disappointed. Quite a bit disappointed. I can see why this originally didn't make the cut. But seeing Charlie again, why did they have to kill him off? :( Anyone know? Was it failure to negotiate contract with the actor or something? Boo.

Guillaume: I think it was in reference to Dunham should make a move on Peter before Lisa does when she turns from "jailbait" to "legal". LOL. Blah. Didn't care for this episode. I certainly hope Thursday's episode is much better!!

  11. I enjoyed the episode, although confused and excited to see Charlie...now that I get why he was there I dont care that they aired it.. I just wish they would use the alternative universe to bring him back, because I beleive he and dunham's chemistry as partners was just getting somewhere and she has to have a partner if they will ever make the love interest with peter :)

She meant make a move on Peter. She was crushing on him.

  13. They definitely didn't screw up. This isn't a leftover episode, it's new, but they're just pretending it's old. You have it backwards. It's part of the mystery.

  15. It was totally a mistake. They aired an un-aired from season 1 and whoever is in charge of their continuity should lose his or her job.

If they can't be fucked to maintain the integrity of the show's universe why should we as viewers give a shit.

Poor effort fringe, this show just went WAY down in my estimation.

  16. Don't know why everyone is upset about them airing a season 1 ep during season 2. We were warned that it was from season 1. And it was made during season 1 because Astrid still has her afro; she got it cut in season 2. I'm just glad I got to see it because I was having Fringe withdrawal from the holiday/winter break. Not my favorite ep, but I was happy to watch it.

  17. who played the girl in fringe episode 121 unearthed? she looks very familiar from another movies

    ReplyDelete
  18. She was in Taking of Pelham 123 as the girl on the webcam. And there's a thing called make-up artists who can apply an afro. This CAN'T be an unaired episode, the product code doesn't match, and only 20 episodes were ordered and produced.

  19. Fear not... a new Episode is airing on Thursday... I didn't even know Fringe was on... Thank God for my DVR.

In other news... I think the Reactor may have spawned more than one Supernatural dude... and I think this episode was a primer for what's coming up in the 2nd half of Season 2.

  20. I'm really glad folks here understand that this is SERIOUS BUSINESS.

But that aside, this was a nice little aperitif for the 2nd half of season two. I hope Captain is right and the scene at the end will be of some importance to the plot. In that respect I hope for nothing though... Mysteries only get deeper in this show!

  21. Did anyone else notice the bald guy in the hat was in the background while they were outside the church talk to the girl? He walks through the background, very interesting.

  22. i saw that too its the observer i still have no clue wat the bald guys r doing

  23. last season 22 episodes were ordered but only 20 aired....so we got one as a "bonus". Whatever.

Charlie is clearly coming back from the dead (alternate universe) this season, but his appearance in "unearthed" isn't that debut — just out-of-context surplus.

Is anyone else getting the feeling that FOX is trying to alienate a fledgling following?

  24. What if the entire season we were watching of the other alternate universe and this episode happens to be the current universe we are in?

  25. this was very gay of fox to put charlie in new episode. i shut it off after seeing him because i thought it was old one

    ReplyDelete
  26. It definitely was an old one - the credits reference being filmed in NY (where Season 1 was shot). Season 2 is being shot in Vancouver, BC...

I enjoyed it; was confused at first with Charlie showing up (checked to make sure it was a New ep), but quickly guessed it was an extra one from Season 1, after remembering that Fox cut the number aired in Season 1 from 22 to 20. Wonder if there's another one in the can?

I wasn't expecting the episode, but the DVR caught it automatically :-) .

    IMHO, anything Fringe is good!

  27. I think this episode took place in an alternate dimension. I could be wrong, but when Olivia was in Broyles' office, it looked like the weird furniture and position from the alter-verse we saw in the episode where Olivia keeps flipping between worlds. It wasn't apparent enough for me to be sure, but I would love to know if somebody else could confirm it. :)

  28. I have no idea what this episode was about. If it was an alternate universde Peter would not be there because he was taken by Walter. Unless there is more than just two universes...

    ReplyDelete
  29. It has been stated many times on this blog: Unearthed was a bonus episode from season 1. It has nothing to do with alternate universes. Charlie was in it because he was still on the show last season.

The show creators have also stated that there will only be two realities on the show - "our" reality, and the alternate reality.

  30. During the Tibeten Death book scene, anyone recognize the song? It kinda sounds like James Taylor. Any ideas would be appreciated.
