The second in our series of Fringe Benefits project artist interviews is with Graham Erwin, the creator of the wonderful and slightly surreal poster for epsiode 1.09 The Dreamscape

Q - Mr. Jensen Karp is the mastermind behind Gallery 1988 and The Fringe Benefits Project. When did he contact you about participating in the series? How much advance notice/working time did you have? Especially as the episodes were voted for by the fans of the show.

A - I was actually given pretty short notice on this project, I had less than a week from when I was notified about the project to when the final art was due. Luckily that week my schedule allowed that type of turn around so I could crank the poster out no problem, but that time frame can be pretty tight for me.

I usually like around 2 weeks to complete a poster, but a portion of that time is set aside for research so having the subject matter chosen for me sped things up.

As Fringe finale looms, Fringemunks producer David Wu reflects on series, meeting cast, and how show will resonate in time

David Wu, creator/producer of The Fringemunks, has released a reflection on Fringe that details his experience as a fan, mingling with the cast in New York, and how the show will impact people over time.

Wu states the following:

Though the finale will mark the end of an era, the series' effect and influence on the future has just begun.  The show is ultimately about responsibility:  taking care of the world, and of the ones we love.  It is also a time capsule of "science thought" in the early stages of this millennium.

In episode 524 of The Fringe Podcast we share a portion of the listener feedback we received for, "The Boy Must Live." We received a tremendous amount of feedback for this episode, so we'll be releasing another feedback episode in a couple of days. In this episode we hear various thoughts about the potential reset and the possible fallout from that event. We also hear thoughts about Peter and Olivia's relationship from the perspective of a marriage counselor, a possible way that Etta might not have ever died, and what might happen in the finale (no spoilers).

The very talented Joshua Budich has kindly responded to a request to answer a few questions about his involvement in the Fringe Benefits Art Project.

Q - Mr. Jensen Karp is the mastermind behind Gallery 1988 and The Fringe Benefits Project. When did he contact you about participating in the series? How much advance notice/working time did you have? Especially as the episodes were voted for by the fans of the show.

A - Jensen contacted me some time in November/December last year about any interest I had in paying homage to Fringe; which of course I jumped on being that it's one of my favorite shows. My piece was intended to be an overall, non-episodic homage, so I had quite a bit of time to get it done ahead of the opening of the website and voting.

Fringe: September's Notebook - The Bishop Paradox

With the finish line less than a week away now as I write this, Fringe has entered into that danger zone where it starts to provide the answers to series's long questions that the fans have been asking since the pilot.  Inevitably the answers will split opinions.  The task of providing answers to questions that feel organic and do not feel bolted on is a difficult tightrope act of writing.  Especially given the nature of serialized TV where the goal is to prolong the journey as long as possible.  Original intentions at the beginning of a continuing drama morph and change the longer the journey goes.

Thankfully, in this episode Fringe has kept to its core themes while preserving the integrity of its continuity even while using one of the most dangerous writing devices - the retcon.

Observer Talk Catch Up

It has been a while since I created an Observer Talk post so I thought it was time to catch up on the small amount of Observer language we have seen in recent episodes.

First is the poster to the left, which was first seen in the episode Five Twenty Ten

This version of the poster was included as an image released as part of the Fox Now app for a later episode.

Ministry of Science is translated of course, but the second section of observer language says "Brooklyn Division" which is different to the English equivalent.

Next was The Human Kind there were two instances of Reward Wire in evidence.
