The Recordist

~~~
With this being the last season of Fringe there is an impediment for me to the stories that the show should be telling as it’s life cycle is coming to a close.  I want the stories to focus on the main cast and have it doing so by involving them directly in the main story.
So when the first two episodes set up a scenario where the show seemed poised to break out of paralleling Case Of The Week stories and have the main cast directly involved in treasure hunts for Walter’s Beta tapes; my expectations were very high for the third episode.  But, ‘The Recordist,’ fell back into the mystery of the week, that was not much of a mystery, and shifted the focus from the main cast to the guest stars.
Strong Jawline!
Fringe Observiews 5.03 The Recordist
      Email Post       10/18/2012 01:10:00 AM
Welcome to the Observiews for Season 5 of Fringe. I call them Observiews because they are more visual observations than deep thinking reviews, if that makes sense.
Screen caps from this episode are taken from fringefiles.com. Dialog is from fringepedia.net.
All observations are mine and therefore could be totally off the wall and/or wrong. I have not read or looked at any recaps or reviews. I could also have missed a few things, oh well…
4.05 Novation
WALTER: "I saw him, Nina... the man. I saw my boy in that man's eyes. The way he looked that night in the ice... floating away from me. God help me, I... saw the eyes of my boy in a man's face. That filled me with... indescribable joy. But I don't deserve joy. For anyone else, this would be received as a miracle -- to get a glimpse of their dead son. Why should I be rewarded for what I've done?"
NINA: "Because maybe you've suffered enough. No, I can't explain it, Walter. I don't know why he's here. I don't know where he came from, but maybe you've just been given a second chance."
Walter is not the only one who received a second chance.
In episode 507 of The Fringe Podcast we share listener feedback we received for the Fringe episode, "The Recordist." We received a lot of great feedback and opinions about the new family dynamic and Olivia's feelings about being a mother, River's drawings and his father's decision to sacrifice himself, and whether or not this was a filler episode. We also received comments about a Doctor Who tie-in, a time travel theory concerning William Bell, and we even got some hate mail about previous comments regarding New Gir. In our Twinge segment, we hear listener opinions on who is Donald and whether or not we will see him again.
Fringe Review: The Recordist
      Email Post       10/13/2012 11:43:00 PM
“It’s not that I can’t remember. It’s that I can’t forget.”
One of the most memorable scenes in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 doesn’t involve book-burning at all, but rather book-remembering. Wandering intellectuals have taken it upon themselves to remember the best books, the most important books, so that not all will be lost, and there will be some hope for humanity.
