Fringe Trailer isn’t what it seems

Posted on January 4, 2012 - 16:39 by CB Droege

Fox has released a new Fringe trailer for the upcoming second half of season 4.

The trailer is in the form of rapid-fire clips from the season, some we’ve seen before, and some we haven’t. It looks like we’re going to be experiencing a lot more of the other universe going forward, which is fine, because this was something sorely lacking in the first half of the season. IMHO, I think it’s time we caught up with Walternate and Fauxlivia.

Interestingly enough, Fox is at least attempting to give the impression that the pace will pick up in the new episodes.

The season so far has been a bit slow, mostly focusing on Olivia and Lincoln, with a lot of character development for everyone. It feels like the beginning of a new show, full of the need to expose the audience slowly to the characters and places. They’re not explaining the basic premises, but it’s clear the writers feel we need a strong introduction to this new world - which leaves me to believe we’ll inevitably be stuck here. This is Peter’s new reality, and he will never get back ‘home’.

Official Press Release

John Noble, also known as Denethor in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and Jasika Nicole also known as Egypt in Take the Lead, have joined the Calgary Expo's already star-studded line-up.

Fringe, having been on the air since 2008, has become an incredibly successful television series, having been compared to such sci-fi hits as The X-Files and Altered States.

"Both John and Jasika have a lot to offer our convention," states Event Director Kandrix Foong. "Not only are they talented actors but they are both talented artists in their own right, which is something that the Calgary Expo has always worked to support from day one."

Priding itself on supporting the arts, the Calgary Expo strives to bring in local, national and international artists to showcase their work in Artist Alley. The Artist Alley section of the exhibition offers these talented individuals an opportunity to demonstrate their skills to both fans and fellow artists. The Calgary Expo will also be featuring panels and workshops that will include topics such as breaking into the arts industries, portfolio critiques and so much more.

The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo will be held April 27 – 29, 2012 at the BMO Centre, Stampede Park, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Jasika Nicole has very little to complain about as a cast member of the show "Fringe." However she may be getting lost in the sea of John Nobel, Anna Torv, and Joshua Jackson (he’s dreamy). Still, over the course of four seasons Nicole has only gotten better. And the writers of "Fringe" have noticed, pushing her to the forefront more and more as things progress. Her portrayal of both Astrid and red universe Astrid (who has at least some form of Autism) deserve more than subtle praise. It may have to wait until she moves on from "Fringe" (let that never happen), but Nicole will be everywhere in 2012.

‘The child is father to the man.’
How can he be? The words are wild.
Suck any sense from that who can:
‘The child is father to the man.’

It sounds funny I know

Oh, I'm my own grandpa.

FRINGE

Another television series that pushed boundaries and expectations this past year was FRINGE. Regularly underestimated, FRINGE continues to provide astoundingly well-conceived and brilliantly portrayed stories that also challenge our perceptions about the world around us. The dual-universe stories and the mirroring of its characters in two different worlds is enthralling. It also challenges us to rethink what we think we know about the characters introduced in the first season and how they have evolved. Most shows are content to create their characters fully-formed early on, but in FRINGE’s case, with each episode, the core characters changed with a chameleon-like grace and astound us all over again — even now that the series is in its fourth season. Credit goes the writers who created them and the stars Anna Torv, John Noble, Josh Jackson, Jasika Nicole and newcomer Seth Gabel for their stunning ability to seamlessly transition between their multi-faceted and increasingly fascinating characters. It has never been more fun to watch the kaleidoscope spin and see where everyone lands up next and who he or she may be next. Science fiction is an enigma in and of itself, yet FRINGE makes it look effortless and exciting.

Fringe Rewatch 406: And Those We've Left Behind

Join us during the fall/winter break every Friday for our Fringe Winter Rewatch.

In my opinion, Fringe is a long-running mystery that will never give up it's secrets until the very end. It used to be a private escape. But today, it's very hard to throw away an episode after watching. I missed that a lot. So I appreciate the time taken to set up the season for all the players involved. From a storyteller's point of view, I need episodes like these to establish where the characters are. Here Peter is embarking on a journey all his own.

It is weird that much of what I imagined has come true. I am not referring to Olivia not knowing Peter. I have come up with that scenario myself in fan fiction. What I imagined was a train coming from nowhere, not so much from the past.

On with the episode. Is it a dream, or a memory? Part of the future vision Peter saw in season 3's The Day We Die. The perfect day in the park for Peter until Olivia tells him, "Too bad it has to end." Why? "You can't ignore the problem, Peter. Ignoring it won't make it go away." What's the problem? "You, Peter. You are the problem."

8. FRINGE

Living on the fringe of the TV schedule and ratings, Fox's sci-fi/fantasy mind-blower just keeps expanding in its mystical complexity. As Peter Bishop plays peek-a-boo between warring universes, we're treated to cautionary Frankenstein parables of the dangers of playing God. A more than worthy successor to The X-Files.
