Astrid TV Character Who Deserve a Spin-Off

      Email Post       8/12/2010 06:27:00 PM

Astrid Farnsworth its in the top ten list of Buddy TV as one of the 10 characters who deserve a Spin-Off. What do you think?

4 of 10
Astrid Farnsworth, Fringe
Show Title: Astrid
Premise: She may experience crazy things in her line of work, but at home, Astrid is just like any other girl with friends, family and plenty of relationship drama. I imagine this as an almost Felicity-esque series about a girl’s romantic troubles, only with the possibility of alternate universes and other sci-fi weirdness.

Jackson: "I don't want a 'Fringe' romance"

      Email Post       8/06/2010 12:12:00 PM

Fringe Photos:
While many fans of FOX's sci-fi series Fringe might be wanting a romance between main characters Olivia Dunham and Peter Bishop, actor Joshua Jackson has stated that he would rather the relationship stay platonic.

Jackson, 32, who plays Peter, told IGN that he would rather Peter and Olivia stay just friends, forming the brother-sister relationship that pervaded for most of the show's first season (albeit with the obvious sexual tension).

"I always thought that dynamic was more interesting," he said. "I think this bizarre little family unit we have – crazy daddy, overachieving daughter and layabout, good-for-nothing son – was a really odd thing to put at the heart of a science fiction show."

Jackson's opinion is directly in contrast to costar Anna Torv (Olivia), who has stated that she wants the relationship to happen, though she isn't sure if it will. "We haven't yet committed ourselves to any sort of romantic relationship," Jackson clarified, talking about the pair's kiss from "Over There, Part 2."

But Jackson's opinion is certainly more than selfish. He's afraid that Peter and Olivia hooking up would ultimately damage the show. "I'm of the opinion that once you go there, you jump the shark. It's the build up, it's the anticipation, it's the tension, without ever consummating or making that happen. I'm always of the opinion that once you go there, you've done real damage to your show."

It'll be hard-running to get the two together, though. It seems as though, with Olivia being trapped in the alternate universe and her doppelgänger posing as her in this universe, a romance might be brewing between Peter and Olivia — just with the wrong Olivia. In fact, that's such a great story opportunity that the writers will be amiss not to go in that direction.

Fringe, which has been renewed for a third season, will return to FOX on September 23 with the premiere episode "Olivia."

Fringe Launches "Pimp My App!" Contest

      Email Post       8/05/2010 05:20:00 PM

Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX) and APPNATION have partnered to launch the first-ever “Pimp My App!” contest to find the web developer who can create the most “pimped-out” mobile app for FOX’s acclaimed hit drama FRINGE. Beginning today, FOX is offering talented developers from across the country a shot at winning $10,000 and the opportunity to have his/her winning submission developed into a FOX mobile app.

The “Pimp My App!” contest is open to any professional or amateur developer legally residing in the United States who is 18 years of age or older (and not a minor in his/her state of residence). Submissions must be in English, and must, at a minimum, be compatible for the Apple iOS or Google Android operating systems. Developers can view full Official Rules and submit their entries online via the official contest site at www.appnationconference.com.

The contest kicks off today, and all submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM ET on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. A panel consisting of FOX, FRINGE producers, Warner Bros. Television and APPNATION representatives will judge each entry based on 1) ease of use; 2) general look and feel; 3) innovation features; and 4) best use of the application technology to deepen consumer engagement with the FRINGE brand; with the final decision to be made by FOX.

FOX will announce the winner of the “Pimp My App!” contest at the inaugural APPNATION Conference, held September 13-14, 2010 in San Francisco. One grand prize winner will be selected, and he/she will receive $10,000 and the opportunity to have his/her winning submission developed into a FOX App. In addition, a second place winner will be publicly acknowledged on the APPNATION keynote stage and will receive a $1,000 prize.

Fox to 'Fringe' fans: 'We have no intention of screwing with the show'

      Email Post       8/02/2010 10:41:00 PM

Despite a dip in ratings last season, Fringe remains a key asset for Fox. That’s the word from the network’s entertainment prez Kevin Reilly, who sang the show’s praises at press tour this morning.

“We have no intention of screwing with Fringe because the show has been going great,” assured Reilly. “It really came into its own last season. If I have any frustration it’s that I’d like the audience to be bigger because people deserve to see the work.”

Reilly went on to say that “the first batch of scripts with the alternative universe” have been particularly strong.

Fringe On Cover Of Special Comic Con Issue of TV Guide

      Email Post       7/31/2010 03:26:00 PM

TV Guide Magazine did something recently they've never done before.
They celebrated the 40th anniversary of the famous San Diego Comic Convention by creating a separate 'Comic Con Special TV Guide Magazine' which was supposed to show up at news stands everywhere around July 26th.

I found it by accident at my grocer's on Friday, July 23rd. Interestingly, 4 different covers were created for this auspicious occassion. One of them is our beloved trio of Peter, Olivia, and Walter.
The other three shows honored to have a cover spot include The Big Bang Theory, Smallville, and Vampire Diaries.

If you are a die-hard Fringe fan you will want to pick up this issue. Inside you will find 8 pages of fun, Fringe-y stuff.

The first two pages are basically for Fringe newbies:A Fringe A-Z covering everything from the 'Alterna-Verse' to Zeppelins.

The second two pages are Damian Holbrook's Favorite Ten Season I and II episodes.(Fun, but I would have included 1.02, 1.05, and 1.06, to add a few).

The fifth page features 'Five Questions For The Cast.' It is interesting that they asked Josh Jackson and Anna Torv pretty much the same questions(hmm, appears there's a Star Wars vs. Star Trek rivalry here.) Jasika Nicole and John Noble got slightly different questions. As for Lance Reddick and Blair Brown's questions and answers, one must visit the tvguidemagazine.com link and wade through a bunch of stuff to find those. But for you Fringe fans, I'll add the link below.

The sixth page of the Fringe section is entitled 'Burning Questions,' and I want to warn you that if you are a no-spoilers die-hard you do NOT want to read this page! Brilliant Executive Producer Jeff Pinkner couldn't keep himself from dropping little tidbits of spoilerish stuff here, and I absolutely love it!

The last two pages are 'Secrets of the Set.' This is a rehash of an article that appeared in TV Guide Magazine earlier this year, but it's always fun to re-visit the lab and the crazy props that live there.

All in all, the Comic Con Special edition of TV Guide Magazine with Fringe on the cover is a lot of fun. You'll probably find yourself paging throught it more than once then handing it over to your new Fringe friend recruits. Before you order it check your grocer's first. They were still on display at my grocer's Friday night in Massachusetts.
