Fringe Begins Filming In Brooklyn

      Email Post       7/07/2008 06:49:00 PM

The appropriately named website Filming in Brooklyn has a report today confirming that Fringe is filming in--wait for it--Brooklyn. While there are no real spoilers in the report, which includes a few spy photos of Joshua Jackson, be forewarned that these types of reports essentially deal in spoilers. If that's not a problem for you, the article is here.

Word on the street is the next chance you'll get to catch Fringe filming is the morning of July 10th, in the vicinity of 7th Avenue and 92nd Street, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York.

Update: Make that Friday.

E Online Inverviews Anna Torv and Joshua Jackson, the Stars of J.J. Abrams' & FOX's New Drama Fringe

Here's a video interview with two of Fringe's stars, Anna Torv (Olivia Dunham) and Joshua Jackson (Peter Bishop).

...The answer is, it's a limitless universe on Fringe, so anything and every thing they can dream up, hopefully we will be able to put on screen. One other note--aside from the scarf(!?)--is how Joshua comes to Anna's rescue in the interview, and whether in typical Abrams leading lady fashion, that dynamic is reversed on screen.

J.J. Abrams is adding another J.J. to his team: The writer-producer has just cast Joshua Jackson as one of the leads of his new Fox drama, Fringe. Jackson — best known as wise-cracking Pacey from Dawson's Creek — will play a member of a unit investigating sci-fi mysteries; the gang also includes his gifted yet possibly insane scientist dad with whom he clashes (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King's John Noble) and an FBI agent (Australian actress Anna Torv). The series, which Abrams has described as similar in spirit to The X-Files, Altered States, and The Twilight Zone, is shooting a two-hour pilot with a reported $10-million-plus budget this month. - Hollywood Insider
Joshua Jackson ("Dawson's Creek," upcoming Shutter) is returning to television as the male lead in "Fringe," Fox's high-profile sci-fi drama from J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

The two-hour $10 million pilot, directed by Alex Graves, centers on FBI agent Olivia Warren (Anna Torv) who teams with Peter Bishop (Jackson) and his estranged father, institutionalized scientist Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), to confront the spread of unexplained phenomena.

Jackson was the producers' early choice for the role of Peter Bishop, a high-school dropout with an IQ of 190, and a misfit who is scrambling to erase a gambling debt.

Filming on the Warner Bros. TV/Bad Robot-produced "Fringe" is under way in Toronto. The pilot's cast also includes Blair Brown, Lance Reddick, Kirk Acevedo and Jasika Nicole. - Coming Soon

Fringe Will Be 'Hard' Science Fiction

      Email Post       3/21/2008 11:30:00 AM

In a recent interview with Sci Fi Wire, Fringe star Joshua Jackson said, among other things:

It's the science side of science fiction, so it takes the physical world that we live in and then sort of goes just past that edge.

Fringe takes the world that we all live in and says, 'All right, so what you know about this cup you don't actually know, because if you look at it from over here, it's something entirely different.' And that will be the thrust of the show: that the physical world that we live in, without the addition of any magic or any supernatural, is far more than we all see it as being.
For those of you unfamiliar with the term Hard Science Fiction, it basically treats the science as interesting in and of itself--and therefore worthy of development--from consistency to plausibility--just as if it were one of the main protagonists of the story.
